Bit of an old chestnut and something of an obsession with us Brits. put worth a punt on a rainy bank holiday with a mountain of housework ahead.
right, here's a link to something which seems to mirror the accepted wisdom:
http://www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/customs/questions/weather/seasons.htm
but we all have our little key events that mark the turning of the seasons.
To get the ball rolling, here's mine:
Spring : From about the time of Augusta
Summer : From about the end of Wimbledon
Autumn : When the clocks go back to GMT or the last idiot gets kicked out of the Big Brother house - whatever comes first.
Winter : From the moment I look at the bank statement on boxing day
Having said that I have an alternative back up system which seems to be more realistic oddly enough:
Spring: When the last easter egg is claimed from the local supermarket shelves until the wrapping paper starts appearing on the same shelves
Summer: Usually between a Tuesday and Friday lunchtime(i.e. while you're at work) over a week in late April or early May.
Autumn: A figment of the imagination
Winter: About the time 'xmas sale' signs start appearing i.e. about the beginning of October.
