When do you get bored of your home course?

After 30 years there are things that annoy me about it. One other course in the area (that I don't like) so won't join there, and the Bournemouth courses are over 30 miles away which is too far away if that would be the only club I was a member at.

similar to Ian. Parkland in the winter, with worm casts and not great condition makes you question the large fees due in a few weeks, But as Murph said, the members are also key, and they are great. And then, when in good condition, usually March to November ish, i absolutely love it

Nope. Don’t think so. Was a member at my old course for a while and just joined a new course. Can’t see me getting bored. Like some have said, I’m the biggest variable... when I putt great the greens are amazing, when I putt bad, they are bobbly and 2 paced 😂😂😂

Can’t see me getting bored of my home club, just frustrated with condition - however the new greenkeeping team are working wonders.

It’s pretty long at a fraction under 7000yds, it’s relaxed enough to be able to play off any tee box you like and there’s huge variety. Short par 4’s with water, long par 4’s tricky par 5’s. There’s different potential strategies on all holes. Plays very differently in the summer compared to winter too.

Where you playing?

Im guessing its just me that doesnt play at a Broadstone, Burnham, Bearwood, Woodhall etc or I have a lower attention span than you all. That or some of you are lying to yourselves :)

I don't think I'll ever get bored with Blairgowrie. Two championship courses to choose from plus the 9 Hole Wee Course. Even if the golf isn't too great, there is an abundance of wildlife to watch.

Played Newport this morning....a grey cloudy day a little soft underfoot from overnight showers. I felt strangely underwhelmed.

Maybe playing Burnham and then Portcawl in the last week in shirtsleeves under blue skies spoilt me and it was back to the realities of parkland golf in late winter?

This is my 10th season there...wondered if I’m getting bored of it? Played much worse than earlier in the week...sure I was just hitting the ball without focusing...

Anyone identify with the feeling?

I find it refreshingly honest to see someone else can get bored with their home course. I have found this previously too. It just all becomes a bit stale and "samey" and the enjoyment factor disappears.

If you're at that stage I think you already know what the answer is.

Oh I can get bored with my place, and turn to autopilot.
There just isn’t anywhere nearby that would be worth joining, so have to just keep going. Heading into my 10th year of membership soon

I've been a member at 4 clubs now. Perhaps I haven't found the perfect club yet, don't think there is one near me to be honest, but getting stale at a club was certainly part of why I moved from the club I was at for the longest. I can see the same happening again at some point. A change of scenery every so often keeps things fresh and interesting.

There is part of me that would like to move, but the lads I play with are a good craic most of the time, and no courses nearby make me want to lose that.
Got a solid swindle on a Saturday morning.

Have played most of the local courses that would be on a par in terms of budget and accessibility, and there is nothing that I'd like to play regularly or has the same feel and atmosphere as my home club. I honestly enjoy my own course every time I play, irrespective of how I play. It offers me enough of a challenge and the green staff are doing a great job on the course, especially the greens and it's only going to get better

That shows that you have got it right.

👍

Having been a member of four clubs in 10 years I have now been a member of my current Club for 37 years.

I suppose I must have an extremely high boredom threshold, plus my golf has become very inconsistent in recent years so frustration rather than boredom is the issue.

Have to get over and play it again at some point

It’s still got a way to go from last years summer and some neglect but the work the new GK is doing is phenomenal. I’ve lost track of how many drainage pipes have been unearthed and unblocked, and there’s been some investment in new machinery too. A very busy maintenance week planned for week commencing 18/3 but reckon it’s going to be pretty good by mid summer. Bunkers are getting hand raked weekly (big job - there’s 84 of them!) 3 former members that I know have returned too.

Let me know when you’re ready, I’d be happy to take you around 👍🏻

Sounds like it's going from strength to strength. I'll look in the diary once the warmer weather comes and get something sorted

I like variety for certain. We forgo holidays abroad for playing at different courses.
