following the "whats your day job" thread, someone posted they would rather be a lumberjack..

Whats you daydream job?

Mine would be manager of a Moto-GP race team with all british development, riders, team etc etc..

That or my latest lottery day dream is to own a golf course. (and the mrs has bought into too, if the course has facilities for weddings and she can own that part of the business)

Working in journalism. (Possibly for a magazine who's subject matter interests me greatly as it's one of my favourite sports/hobbies )

But in all seriousness, that is the honest answer. I wish I'd taken a journalism course when I was younger as I'd love to work at GM/Guitarist/Total Guitar magazine or something along those lines.

My bro works in the industry and did a degree in politics... no need for a journo qualification IMHO, your dream job is something you could achieve!! why not do some write up/reviews and send them in to whichever publication!

Its not as glam as you may think though IMHO, ask the guys that work in IPC tower (as my bro used to), 12 or 13 issues a year, extra stuff its all deadline deadline deadline.. plus my bro has to travel ALOT for his mag.. It is great though i can imagine working in the industry you also are passionate about...

My dad was the Editor of a National Newspaper in South Africa and he always told me to steer clear of Journalism as the pay wasn't brilliant. I listened to the old guy and didn't go for it. I wish I had gone into sports journalism. I am a sports nut and would love to have done it instead of being a bloody bank manager. Any jobs going MikeH?

Oh I'm aware that it's not all free rounds of golf and jollies to the Middle East, but it's something that's always greatly interested me (not just the writing but every aspect of producing a monthly publication, the marketing and digital management etc..). I think part of it comes from my Dad who works in the paper trade supplying paper for magazines/newspapers etc...so samples and freebie mags have been around me growing up. Truth is, I don't mind working hard for something I enjoy and am passionate about.

I wrote a load of music reviews when I was at school (and even did a faux RollingStone mag Article for my A-Level english coursework) and even ran my own music website (with gig reviews, interviews and album reviews) for a short time - managed to interview one of my favourite bands Hundred Reasons, before a gig of theirs in Nottingham along with 3 or 4 others...Alas, when I was younger, I wasn't aware of needing "backups" and all my work has been lost :(

I would certainly love to get back into it though and as you say, can't harm to send samples to various outlets. Unfortunately, at present time is an issue with planning my own wedding, helping with my best mate's wedding and organising his Stag plus another 6 weddings to attend this year, weekends and evenings are mostly taken up. It's a pitiful excuse really, but hopefully once I get past it all I can find time to submit some stuff.

@ Aztecs, if you write and stuff and want it forwarding, my bro now works for futurenet, so they have a few music publications etc, as per ipc, most of the mags share the building and they are only in Bristol too! career change coming??!! ;-) at least your dream job is realistic, mine is never gonna happen!! Either i doubt is Wull's porn star dream! LOL

Would love to go back into Humanitarian Landmine Clearance.

Came back here with my young son 5 years ago so unfortunately my career in HMA was cut short.

Thanks mate.

Yea, I used to read Guitarist A LOT - but unfortunately I'd never be good enough at actually playing it to do gear reviews! :D I appreciate that though, will certainly keep it in mind. If he mentions any openings (tea boy or computer based stuff, or anything accepted! ;)) let me know!

I'm happy with my 1 day a week version BUT if I was to work full-time then I'd love to be a sports specific physiotherapist. I love the human anatomy and understanding how it functions and always said that given my time again I'd work harder at school and train to be a physio. It would be in a top level sport such as athletics or rugby or maybe even golf!

If I was allowed to use my phone on the course and have a computer attached to the trolley I'd carry on with my current job while playing golf. Hell I putt in my office while chatting on the phone to clients and suppliers!

All though I've got the Credentials to be a Porn Star......Im going to say either a Golfer or a Musician.
Been to a few Concerts & musicals and I watch these musicians at the top of their game in awe, the energy the exchange between themselves and the audience is phenomenal.
