As I am awaiting the golf to start with my 6 week old daughter sleeping in one arm. I thought as a "newbie"I would ask you all this question.

Me personally 16 years ago I was playing the 2nd round of the West of Scotland match play at Loudon Gowf club, we both tee'd off and as you do the opening chat was what is your handicap and where do you play.

I was off 3 at Cathkin GC he replied "I play off scratch at Turnberry" so as you expect my arse dropped by the time I picked it up I was 3 down at the turn,

I managed to get it to square after 17 playing the last a short par 4 with a burn splitting the fairway and rough and a green 2 thirds protected by a big bank you should hit an iron out rightish on to the fairway to have the right angle to the green I went first hooked a driver into the heavy stuff he nailed an iron down the middle.

I had a wedge to the green but could only see the tip of the pin due to the bank I hacked it out and it landed on the top of the bank then out of sight I looked over to my opponent for a reaction and his jaw dropped and wedge fell out of his hand I had canned it for a 2 he was gutted

I have 2 that I couldnt split.

1) 7th hole at Gillingham, par4, wild drive, behind tree. Out comes the lob-wedge, flop-shot over tree and into the hole for an eagle.

2) 2nd hole at Gillingham, having birdied the 1st I drove at the 2nd, short par4, and stuck the ball about 3ft from the hole.

I holed a 3" putt once, right in the middle of the hole. Perfect strike, right out the sweet spot. Doesn't get better than that.

I holed a four foot putt on the 18th in our betterball semi to take it to extra holes 2 years back, we went on to win it, best putt I had ever holed.

next you start birdie eagle make up a fake injury you can always you were 3 under until you were forced off with injury.

Like MedwayJon, I have two that I couldn't split.
Playing at Highwoods a couple of years ago, 8th hole, par 4 goes over a small stream and rises to an elevated green.
I'd carved my drive out to the right and was under a line of fir trees just off the fairway.
I had to keep the ball low so elected to bang a 4 iron out from underneath them. As soon as I hit it I knew it was good. It flew across the stream, hit the bank the other side and kicked up to about 3" from the hole for a birdie.
The other was playing at Romsey GC in Hampshire. I'd hit a nice drive on a par 4, green sat way down below, again with a stream in front of it. I had to get the ball up fairly quickly over a tree and flushed an 8 iron. Didn't even feel it leave the club. Watched it sail down towards the pin and it nearly went in. It plugged about an inch from the hole. My mate couldn't believe it. Nor could I to be honest!

what was your score after birdie eagle ( I hope you holed 3 footer) start?

Holed the eagle putt.

Still have the card from the day but afterwards I went downhill big-style and ended up with an 88.

You just played the front 9 then John?
;)

We so need an instant smiley depicting somebody playing with their winky especially for you!!! :p

hole in one up the 18th at mount oswald. hit the sh1ttest 6 iron of my life, proper worm burner that just rolled al the way practically. SOme little turd ran on the green from the club house and got it out the hole before i could get there

Yesterday, 11th hole, playing at my place with PieMan - third shot, four iron in hand - shanked it.

It was the perfect shank - a pro couldn't have played it better!

I lost the ball as well so job done!

A hooded 4 iron at the par 3 9th at The Jubilee. 203yds sent it our right and drew it round a mound at the front of the green and stopped 8ft from hole. I missed the birdie that would have been my 4th in a row vs GM's Mike and PaulOH playing with Atticus.

Its my favourite shot because I called it before going for it.

Awesome! - I'd have liked to see such a perfect shot, one you've nearly mastered apparently

About 3 years ago on the 7th Hole @ Shendish Manor. I think its about 150 yards maybe 160. Hit a 7 iron to less than an inch. I guess this is the most memorable shot. I am sure I must have played better quality shots but never an eagle or a hole in one so this will have to do for now.

Played lots (no really) over the years that have all meant something in a match or competition. I enjoyed hooking a 3H 30 yards in the air at the 3rd at Leatherhead to find the green with HTL after calling the shot before I hit it. Shame I then 3 putted.

If I have to pick one, then probably my approach to the 18th at Wokefield in a club match, one down at the time. It's a long(ish) par 5 of 535 uphill and I had an 8 iron left from 132. My partner was out of the hole and they were both on the green a long way from the pin. I hit it perfectly to about 3 foot and converted the putt. Turned out the half was good enough to secure the overall win too

Playing whitecraig in east lothian. 8 iron 2nd shot to par 4 18tb with any number of people watching from the terrace....

Utterly thinned the shot, only to watch it run to the side of the hole! Enjoyed the walk onto the green ...
