What to do......

If your membership runs out in January, you could try and do a deal with the new chosen club. Either try and negotiate a discount or ask for 16 months golf for the price of 12. Pay in Jan but membership is concurrent until April 2014. That could help offset the additional cost for the first year

Well, the Judicial Reviews have all been lost except one that relates to compensation so...

By 2017 they will start work on wrecking my Golf Club.

General consensus amongst the Legal Eagles is that, although appeals will almost certainly be made, such was the overwhelming scale of the loss that these appeals will fail and not delay the scheduled start of work.
We've already paid up for the coming year - April to April but with another club in Town closing it's doors last month and only 1 comparative club in the area - all others are another step up in terms of cost - this time next year I may well be moving to pastures new to beat the rush.

As a members club will the land not then be sold for plots and then an EGM held to either divvy up between members or build another course?

We were offered a relocation, complete build of new clubhouse and course and the committee turned it down  They decided to fight on and then before Christmas we were informed they had moved the plans for the aqua duct around 500 meters away and so the 2 holes and side of the course affected would be missed. This was nationally announced and in writing but we just heard that move and plan has now been rescinded and were back where we were :(

Much of the land is leased from a Hotel Group. The other land is basically owned by the Company the runs the Club. Some land is also leased from the Council I think.
So our Membership fees are, in effect, pre-payment of Green Fees so we'll get nowt.

I feel a game at AVGC in the offing...

Steve and Al - are you listening?

Fish - are they going to appeal again?

Yes, its ongoing.

Its not just the aqua duct that is the issue for us as that effectively is underground, its the work and disruption completing that aqua duct which will cut right into our 16th green and fairway and dependant on the angle their now talking about could encroach on our 17th also.

I've heard our team are doing a good job with the negotiations and possible compensations but a lot of the members would have been happier to move and have something new purpose built as the money being thrown at the course and buildings now as there ageing I don't think warranted staying so they should have cut the heart strings and moved debt free if they had the chance I think rather than have all the uncertainty.

Open invite Ian, just let us know when you fancy a game (you could even bring your bro up and take us on, albeit Al may feel a little left out of the awesomeness :p )

It is indeed a sad read and being pragmatic the Club is being run as a business and you should feel no loyalty to a business whose offer and quality is reducing - I would leave as quick as you can if there is another local course with a decent proposition as they may not need members as much in the future as they do now.

As a possible beneficiary of the faster link being based not too far from one of the Birmingham interchanges I guess it is beholden on me to say that if you are ever in the area and fancy a crack at Ladbrook Park whilst I am sure it is no consolation I would be delighted to take you round (we'll do it at a brisk Virgin pace with good onboard service to mark the occasion rather than try to rush it 20 minutes quicker and spoil everything)

Seems like a done deal, unfortunately.

To be fair I think the only thing that was ever going to stop it is UKPLC going competely bust - we're not quite there yet....
Parliament seem to be almost fully behind it so the best we could ever really hope for was a significant delay.....

Looks like your going to have to jump ship mate. Have you got a big memebership at your place, because you could end up missing out on a good course if all of a sudden there is 500 people looking for a new course.

I would say that there could be up to 4-5 years before the Club will close.
Many will stay for another couple of years and then think about moving.
That's why I'm going next March..
There's plenty of other clubs around, but just the one in the similar bracket.
Aylesbury Vale is seen by a lot who live the Town as being a long way out and will go to places like Ellesborough and Chiltern Forest instead.
AVGC isn't as far as people think but the longer they do, the better.
I don't think there will be a mass exodus this time next year, the year after maybe....

Like you said you have paid up for this year and you do not need to rush into a decision. At least you have a got a year now to make your mind up whether you are willing to travel further for a lower green fee or maybe take a higher green fee but have less to travel.

I think you would have a case though for a full refund if it could be proven that they are no longer investing in the course and that your enjoyment and opportunity to play golf compared to other nearby courses which are open when yours is closed, is being spoilt.

There will become a time when this will become very obvious.
