I've bitten the bullet and decided to join another course closer to home.

The one I'm applying to is an "old school" shirt & tie place so that should be interesting, however the course is top notch. I've got to go through the good old interview process, however I see this as a two way thing, and it's my chance to make sure its right for me. What questions would you ask?

ta!

Hey Jaymo!!!

Which club you joining?

1st question to ask yourself is "Would I be happy playing here?" If it's a stuffed shirt type of place, possibly full of old farts full of their own importance, would it be right for you?

However, relevant questions to ask include:

Format for comps, booking procedure, can I just turn up and play? What's the social scene like (if interested) How does the course hold up in winter (does it close, winter tees and greens most of the winter)

A few to get started with. ;)

How you doing anyway? Still going to be playing through the winter months?

If you don't know anyone at the club, you will want to know about roll ups. Best way to get to know members as quickly as possible, especially over the winter months when there may not be many competitions to enter.

How many full members? Do you ballot members out during the winter months? Is the comp sheet a first come, first served or are members allowed to put more than one name one? - all the things that make playing golf in winter difficult.

HOW MUCH?! Yer havin' a giraffe aren't ya...

Hi Pal, all good thanks. Looking at Brough, a cracking track, bit stuffy in the clubhouse but I can live with that! They're trying to bring in younger members, so there's 4 of us moving there.

Going to play 2 clubs during the winter, the misses is going to be happy! you playing much?

Ask about booking a time - do you need to or can you roll up throughout the week and at weekends.
Are competitons drawn - ideal way to meet other members if they are and can be hard to get a game if not.
What are the dress code rules - nothing wrong than breaking them as a newbie. If they are that pedantic about them (I'm not a fan - welcome to the 21st century) then you don't want to create bad first impressions
What is the catering like. Can you get food before and afte a round.
Can you put your name down for club matches or are they all picked (mates of mates)
What are the practice facilities like
What social events do you have
Do I have to pay a bar tab on top of my fees

what's their 5 year plan?
what are they doing to guarantee survival?
are there any planned modifications (not necessarily improvements) to the facilities/course/clubhouse?
voting rights?
can you sign in guests? how many per visit? how many per year?

it is your chance to interview them as well as look at you. People always seem to forget that it is also their chance to learn something as well as give it all away.
