What makes for a good lesson

People can believe anything their hearts desire about lessons. often people feel good because their teacher is nice and says nice things about them, or they hit a couple of good ones and feel amazed for a brief moment.

For me the only good lesson is one that yields positive results in your standard of play. If not, it wasnt a good lesson. What are lessons for otherwise.another social dance maybe?

Just re read my post and it was a bit self indulgent!

For me a good lesson is one where I end up with 2 things as a minimum.
They are :-

1, I finish hitting better and with more control than I started.
2, I have something that I can take to the course when it all goes west so I can fix it.

On the matter of video,I have had the great good fortune to be taught with and without.
My feeling is that it can be a help but that I cant really say it is essential. Much more depends on your prsonal experience/preference.
My current coach who is a PGA Master Professional and on the GM panel doesnt use video for instance.

As some of you might have read i've not been playing long and had my first lesson last night. It could not have gone any better. Great pro who was down to earth and really encouraging. He uses the video replays and i found them really helpful. Helped me see what i was doing during my swing. I think if he didn't use this i would've struggled to visualize where i was at each point of the swing. Also gave me a free bucket of balls to continue practicing after the lesson. All in all a good lesson.
