What is happening to our world?

IMO there is a general feelng of 'entitlement': generates unreal expectations that will not be met and so resentment builds.

A vaste number of reasons. TV and advertising show what you 'should' have or aspire to have. Easy finance, general impatience.

TV interviews usually have an expert challenged by 'pop' star or other celebrity, membef of the public who then rant on to flatter their own ego.

Average intelligence is actually quite low. People are generally uniformed/stupid and look for reasons to blame everyone else rather than take any responsiblity.

Come on, there's a separate thread for Brexit so no need to bring it up again. ;)

The Golden age folk seem to have forgotten about the Brixton and Toxteth riots.
Mods and Rockers knocking the hell out of each other.
Signs like 'No Blacks, Irish or dogs'[Scots were Ok then seemingly]
Slum housing and Rachman and the Krays.
And worst of all ...Watneys Red Barrel

Thing is, it is easy to focus on the bigger things that can be attributed to certain groups etc and draw sweeping conclusions about types of people, nations as a whole etc but lets look closer to home. Social distancing is introduced but appears to have been largely ignored at a number of clubs, golf is banned yet videos appear of people out on the course, golf is back as 2 balls yet stories abound of groups joining up as 4 balls, ignoring social distancing etc, complaints ring out about how unfair it is to not allow 4 balls, 4 balls are permitted but complaints abound about no competition golf, people start their own competitions, clubhouses are closed so people bring beer and drink in the car park, clubhouses do takeaways and people sit in the car park eating them with their beer and thus not taking them away at all despite the rules aiming to stop people lingering around the club before or after rounds. On a smaller scale, golf clubs alone have shown all of the traits of the beach goers, the protesters and those breaking the rules by acting in a way that suits them

These are unprecedented times with stringent rules that nobody has had to contemplate before. Some will follow them strictly, some will ignore them, most will be somewhere inbetween but it is across all walks of life and across all political ideologies. Whilst we do not see it across the newspapers, I am guessing this is going on in pretty much every country across the globe. Basically, the alternative would have been to put the army on the streets and end what little economic activity we had keeping places ticking over. Not sure that would have been ideal.

My point of view, I stay good to my own conscience as to what I feel is right or wrong given my own circumstances.

This sort of behaviour doesn't IMO.

Most of the people on the beach or raves won't know the leader of the opposition, I'm sure of that.

Think the key word there is opposition. As they are not the people who are mostly setting the current political agenda and subsequent policies. I am not saying this would all change into a idyllic nirvana if another party came to power. However we have had the same administration for over a decade now and their policies have impacted society in a big way.

Plus a lot of the bahaviour is amplified by social media plus some parts of the traditional media who have a vested interest in keeping their readership scared and angry against some perceived threat to their way of living. In reality it was one beach. Police are hardly getting attacked on a daily basis and there is not much rioting.

I don't know if people are going stir crazy because of Covid but this country seems to be losing control right now. Peaceful BLM marches turning into riots, illegal raves, street parties with dozens of police officers being attacked and injured, people flocking to beaches and ignoring social distancing and leaving tonnes of rubbish behind. Carry on like this and I can see the army being called in to control crowds.

Has there been a decade in the past few century where there hasn't been violence / civil unrest / war?

The summer riots of 2011 weren't that long ago. Sparked by police shooting Mark Duggan in Tottenham.
We've seen London terror attacks in 2017 and 2005.
Jo Cox MP murdered in 2016.
Prior to that we had IRA bombs, terror threats, violence in the UK and NI, over several decades.
Then we go back to poll tax riots of the late 80 / early 90s.
Miner strikes and unrest in the 80s etc etc.

And these are all the homegrown incidents by British citizens displaying violence towards other citizens or police forces.

So I don't think the recent events are demonstration of a country losing control. It is sadly just another series of events and there will always be people who feel their voices are not heard and tensions rise to the point of becoming violent.

What I've gleaned from reading this forum/social media in general.

Folk who object to crowded beaches during COVID, seem to be OK with large demonstrations.

Everyone objects to rioting, depending on who is doing the rioting.
Everyone is outraged by murder, but it seems to depend on who has been murdered.

Gosh. Am I becoming a fence sitter?

This happens every year. Normally it's in Magaluf and Benidorm so it's Spain's problem, but this year it's happening at home for all to see.

Forget all the terrorist related events you have mentioned, they are not related. All the remaining events were protests against an actual event (whether you agree with them or not). All the recent issues are just down to stupid people. Riots at BLM marches.....why? Just thugs jumping on a bandwagon. Brixton street riots......idiots turning violent when the police try to break up an illegal rave. Litter on the beaches.......what's that all about. TAKE IT HOME!

I'm not casting aspersions but maybe the people who drop litter on the beaches of Magaluf and Benidorm are stuck here in the UK so they have chosen different beaches instead ;)

You really think that the behaviour of society has nothing to do with the political landscape?

It’s not society as a whole though is it?
It’s mindless idiots who couldn’t give a toss if they infect someone else or get infected.
They also couldn’t care less about the NHS either judging by their behaviour.

Exactly. The behaviour reported at the illegal raids happens EVERY night in Magaluf. It's not Spanish people running riot. The disgusting loutish / hooligan behaviour is just happening at home in Britain this year.

I have seen a lot more litter on grass verges since all those “restaurants “ opened again.
The fines for littering out of your car should be very strict.
First offence £1000.
Second offence take their car off them , so the nicer the car the more they have to lose.
Why can’t people just take it home.?

I like your post

If my children are fairly usual

They rarely watch the news, would never watch a covid brief but would do thorough research if they felt it important enough.

However both of my children are very intelligent so the latter part of my sentence may not apply to a lot who would probably get all their info from social media only.

... the beaches are open lets go.
