What do you think of full pro-am tournaments?

No problem with the pro ams and Scottsdale as mentioned in another thread. They are something different from the increasingly dull 72 hole strokeplay smash and pitch identikit target golf that the PGA tour mostly is now.

Fans come in all shapes and sizes with levels of interest that'll ebb and flow.

I think even most of those who say they're not interested in pro am's etc would soon tune into the Dunhill if the Pro from their course was playing or if their fav celeb was in it or if the event was being held at their home course

Everyone has their hook, some just need a more personal hook than others

Fav celeb? Fav celeb?
This is a new concept to me....

People clearly have celebrities they prefer over others, you just have to read the OOB section to see folk witter on about actors/singers/authors/footballers etc etc & this is just on a golf site

I find them fascinating in a morbid sort of way, to see even a low h/c golfer juxtaposed against a pro really highlights how good the pro's are and what a bunch of chompers all of the rest of us are.

I was thinking this watching the Tshwane Open over the weekend

The guys in the top tier rankings are just so much more accomplished than those further down both on approach shots, recovery & putting although not so much on tee shots
(then a guy who's 447th goes and spanks PM but we'll call that the exception that proves the rule ;))

The guy that won it used to be a very good player - after he got in the RC team about a decade ago lots of good things were said about him - then he went on a slump , think there could be a lot of parallels with Colsearts. Still can't believe PM missed that putt on 18 though

Are you telling me there's such a thing as celebrity culture?? And some people like to find out what celebrities are up to??? Is this a new thing then as I haven't heard much mention of it in the clubhouse.

You'll be making stuff up soon such as there's some kind of internet page where you can see things celebs witter on about or see photos they put on the internet. And then trying to convince me that that there are magazines dedicated to celebs and that a lot of papers and TV programs use celebs to gain more readers or viewers by reporting on their every move or making them do things outside their normal line of work. But I'm not buying it you know, its not a thing, it doesn't exist. ;)

I quite like the Dunhill, but found Pebble Beach dire to watch. Spent far too much time in the studio chatting to celebrities that we've never heard of, like College Football coaches, showing us clips of the sea and too much time watching amateurs when we should have been watching the decent golf. Wasn't enjoyable to watch at all.

I like it - interesting to see how comparable mere mortals (at least when it comes to golfing ability) play alongside seasoned pros. Walhberg nearly making an ace; yer fella I've never heard off talking about his bet with Spieth; Murray is funny; non-conventional swings and the results relative by handicap...... wouldn't like it every week, but now and again is fine.
