played in my first comp today and was playing with a 28 handicapper, i play off a 15.

I started off brilliant shooting 44 on first 9 but the bloke i was playing with was all over the place andended up shooting 62 first 9!!

I found myself thinking what do i say to him after he was playing these awful shots.

What would you do/say??

i play off 27, and was on 53 at the turn-around. dont say it will get better because it will make him think your keeping tabs on his play and will make him more conscious of how bad he's playing. when im playing a mare, which is most of the time, i will talk about anything to try and relax. im i start not talking at all, im that pissed off that i dont want to talk.

I was out today after a god awful round on Wednesday where I basically lost the head and withdrew into myself. Today I noticed every decent to mediocre shot was greeted with "nice shot" or "that's more like you". This actually started to grate on me as it seemed quite patronizing. Needless to say I lost it by the 6th taking a 10 and then another 10 on the 7th.

This was met with "don't worry, you're defeating yourself if you worry about it too much". Kind words but not what you need to hear because you already know these thing anyway! I just wanted them to shut up and play their own game and stay well out of mine.

Played with a guy in the club championship today who started with an opening tee shot OB, had an 8 down our par 3 6th and finished it all with an 11. Needless to say he's got tomorrow off but myself and the other playing partner didn't really say anything to him. We've all been there and personally I hate it when someone says something like "bad luck" etc if I've chopped it OB of duffed a chip. Luck doesn't come into it. Swinging like a numpty does.

He did hit some good shots and I said good shot or well played as I would do for any well struck shot. I guess at the end of the day it depends whether everyone has their game face on or you were in a group where you could have a bit of banter. If its the latter then I find it actually helps more than everyone being deadly serious and I can relax more especially if I'm chopping
