Electricity.
Not alot.
Woke up this morning to no power.
So no phone, internet, music, tele, kettle, toaster, (electric cooker), fridge, freezer, lights etc etc.
It finally came back on about 1pm

And it fried my Tivo hard drive.
Off shopping tomorrow for a surge protector :(

We moved to our present house, just in time for the gales in the late 80's. We had no power for a week and had to keep inviting ourselves round to friends for showers. What was most frustrating was that further down the road in the village, everyone else had power within a day.

I remember a few years back when we had a power outage lasting several hours. Mrs Leftie was starting to panic as she couldn't do the dutiful wife bit and put my meal on the table when I came home - not even a cup of tea.

No electricity, no electric oven, no gas hob as the gas lighter was electric and wouldn't light the gas.

Fortunately, I introduced her to a box of matches ............

In answer to your question Bob, after a very long day, I could have done without that.

Living in the sticks with overhead power cables, power cuts are not infrequent. The secret is to be prepared. We have a gas picnic stove, kettle and various gas and paraffin (Tilley) lamps that we use. We also have a coal fire. The telephone still works if there is a power cut as long as it is a corded type, but mobiles work too. Life doesn't stop because you can't watch telly or get on the internet. Listen to the wireless if you have a battery one or read a book.

Showing my age now, but I remember the power cuts during the strikes in the 70's.
As a kid it was an exciting time when all the lights went out. The shops did a roaring trade in candles, we had them all round the house (even in the bathroom)
Great fun for kids but annoying for the grown ups.

Imagine that happening nowadays, all those gadgets to reset!!!

Ah I remember it well.
There was a Convent local to us, and I remember the Mother Superior going round at night saying "Candles out girls".
You could hear the slurp from here

Also caused a mini baby boom - they should be 30 somethings by now. :D
