Wetherspoon price hike

Won't set foot in one. Nasty places.

Don't get how they can sell beer that cheap though. I have friends in the industry, and their prices are silly. I guess they make money on food. Given their food, how do they make a profit?

Mr G and I were reminiscing about the night in Rugeley - staying at the Travelodge before Beau Desert - and the Wetherspoon was by far the classiest boozer in town - but that paled next to the worst curry ever seen - it was too bad to describe - great evening though!

They buy their products closer to the sell by dates and plenty of it and high sales volumes, putting a lot of nearby pubs oob and that's it.

Buy in bulk and sell cheap, also as there is so many they have massive buying power because of how much they order
A lot of the breweries they deal with would rather sell massive amounts at a smaller margin with WS than considerably less to other chains for a moderately higher margin
Not a fan of the wether spoons as the beer they sell if freely available everywhere (including supermarkets) but they know their market very well and cater to this, also the standards within the group are extremely high due to the turnover they have so respect for that.
I would rather drink in an Independant pub with interesting / different beers or ales and pay a bit more but that's just me

Beer prices are rapidly making my visits a thing of the past.

Prices don't worry me atm. If people didn't chase Sky packages / mobile phone packages (like we do) where they waste most of their disposable income, then they could afford to go to the pub. Simples! Once they're gone, they're gone! (Pubs)

Just re-read this. Just to be clear....we do NOT have Sky £90 per month package or £30 per month mobile package.

Big fan of Weatherspoons myself as I have shares in them. Plus the do real ales at cracking prices.

One I went to in Perth a couple of months ago had a lovely pint of something like Edinburgh Gold at £2, absolutely lush it was. And also the one in Nottingham was knocking out Thornbridge Jaipur (Oz Clarkes favourite pint, and he knows his alcohol) at £2.50 a pint the other week. Which I would argue is as good a pint for that price you will ever get nowadays.

Also the food is well priced for what it it. Went to Frankie and Bennys the other day and they do the same kind of thing, but twice the price and not as nice in my book. Yes it's not high cuisine, but decent value if you are after that kind of thing.

They buy loads of short dated kegs and shift it very quickly. Very good business model.

Unlike The Walled Garden at Archerfield where over 20 staff were 'manning' a 60 cover cafe, small bar and a couple of mini shops.
Don't travel too far if you are thinking of going, slightly upgraded Moto IMO.
