Had my Ping G25 irons 5 to LW for about 6-7 years and they still do the job for me. Fancying some new wedges as the current ones are well used. I use the 54 SW for everything round the green, don’t use the 58 LW at all. Use the PW from about 100 yds and UW from 80ish. Would probably go highish bounce but so many grinds to choose from where do I start?

Sorry for the standard answer but do you have lessons? If so ask the pro. Very hard answer to give without seeing you swing and tendencies.

Wedges are as big a minefield as shafts.....
Angle of attack, type of ground you play on and what you want to do all play a part in it.
If you dont already know what works then get to see someone who can work it out or get hold of different bounces and grinds and try them.
They, really, is the only ways to do it.

Ping G25 wedge is 45 degrees (from memory) so I'd be looking at how you want to fill the gap. You could go 50, 54, 58 or if you if don't have the gap, I'd go 52, 58 which is what I have as my Ping I wedge is 46 degrees. If you are unsure the best bet is to chat to a pro or why not get a wedge fitting/lesson

If you are going to 54 in another make sure you get the same bounce if you are finding it works well for you. I use a 54/11(2dot) Cleveland Rotex 3 v-MG
although the 4 is available you can still get the 3. The narrow sole makes varying the type of shot quite easy

I also have the one dot (low bounce) in the RTX 2 but tend to carry the 2 dot.
While some people are happy to play with a variety of clubs and that's fine I'm a tad OCD and like my wedges to match my irons so I went for Ping. To be honest I found the Vokey a tad heavier than my Ping and found the original Glide more heavy than the Gorge (which I still use). I found the Cleveland a similar weight to my Ping and so they'd be worth a look for me if I can get past my OCD. I understand the latest Glide is a lighter model so may look to upgrade

Thanks all, food for thought. I play different courses and at 12-14 handicap would probably not need too much specialism. Don’t have lessons and wouldn’t know where to start getting a wedge fitting near me. Homer you’re right about the PW at 45*, do people usually change all wedges or just the top 2 or 3? SW is 12* bounce, like the look of the Cleveland wedges.

I am happy with my PW (46 degrees) and know it's my 100 yard club so wouldn't change that. I simply then wanted to fill the gap hence a wedge at 52 and finish it with 58. I can open the 58 up so can make it into a 60 degree if I need to.

It depends where you are as to where may be a good place to look at a fitting. It is an interesting thing and not only is it about distance control but also about controlling flight and spin

I changed my wedges last year...

I did the research, had recently been fitted for irons, so felt I knew what I was looking for. My iron striking a strength, so I wanted a setup to improve my up and down performance from inside 110. I bought into the idea that it's easier to hit full shots etc. I plumped for 50/54/58 Vokey combo, with the 54 with more bounce for the rough, and less bounce on the others to use predominantly from the fairway and bunkers (play links, hence the lower bounce). Even picked my grand carefully :)

I've found I'm no better, and the 50 is particularly difficult to master compared to my PW. There's less forgiveness on mishits for example, so I don't hit it closer with my 50deg than I do with my PW from 120.

My takeaways:
1. A bad workman blames his tools. I need to practice more. The clubs don't matter as much as you think.
2. Don't underestimate the need for some forgiveness (handicap dependent) with your gap wedge.
3. A stock shot/yardage with each wedge will help prevent heartache when you put yourself in perfect position... and then walk off with a 6. ;)

OP what is your budget? Top end will cost you about £130 per club but you might also want to consider some of the very good cheaper options like Wilson or Benross.
