Wasps

If you cant get at the nest, you can easily trap them - cut top part of a 2 litre soft drink bottle off and invert it back inside the bottle for a funnel effect, hold with a staple or some tape and if you want to hang it off a branch to keep it away from kids or whatever get some string through it. Put some sugar and fruit or jam, anything sweet in it and a few inches water, wasps will go in and cant get out and will drown -it's a bit brutal but you can kill enough pretty quickly to make the nest unviable. Worked for me when we'd a nest under eaves and into attic somewhere.

We always used to that when camping, bottle on a pole a good distance away from the tent.

We had a wasp nest in the chimney couple of years back, and they were coming down into the house. Had to light a fire, and keep it going for two days. Neighbours must have thought we were mad having a fire in summer. The smoke did seem to annoy them though. Wasps not neighbours.

Wasps are a minor irritant though compared to the hornets we get. They are huge and really aggressive. Wouldn't fancy being stung by one.

If they are Asian Hornets you can notify the government and they will deal with them. They are trying to stop them invading the country as they kill bee colonies.

To be fair I try not to get close enough to ask their nationality.;)

Think they are the bog standard home grown ones. They only seem to be around for a few weeks at the end of the summer. If we leave an outside light on, they wait for you to open the door and they swarm in. I know wasps eat a lot of bugs, insects etc, so hornets must be dieting on small rodents.

With thousands of wasp species they can’t all be bad.

A handful of species give wasps a bad name!

Even in the UK we have some beautiful wasp species.
