So 63 yo Vijay Singh is activating his career earnings status (which is his right) in order to provide him certain pga tour playing privileges for 2026.

That category is fairly low on the hierarchy but will still likely enable a fair amount of starts in regular events.

Just because you can do something doesn’t always mean you should.

Thoughts?

Sounds similar to Venus Williams applying to enter tournaments again this year. Massages their ego temporarily, until they get beaten early doors, miss cuts. Move on people, accept your time at that level has gone.

When I went to watch the open at Lytham a few years ago Vijay was using the practice bunker, when he had finished he came out and was happy to sign autographs and talk to people even though it wasn’t designated as an Autograph area.
He went up in my opinion then as he was about the only player I saw who did that.

The difference of course is that the fitness isn't as important in golf. If he can walk around for 4 days and swing the club approximately 280 times, then he's fit enough. And of course, it just so happens that Singh is a bit of a fitness freak anyway. And a practice freak too.

It is one of the best things about golf. In how many other sports can competitors still compete in big competitions, past the age of 40? Snooker, darts, sometimes boxing... Anything else?

If he proves me wrong I'll happily hold my hands up. However, I don't think he will compete. If he could, he'd be on the main tour still each week.

Really shouldn’t be boxing….just because someone is in a big fight, that’s not necessarily at the top level — they have just built their name / their market value = they are valuable to the TV networks and promoters to sell a fight

Pro boxing is more a case of ‘who can generate the biggest payday for everyone’, rather than the best fighting the second best etc

So many elite sportspeople make comebacks, it’s their right and who knows why they want to.

Scholes and Schumacher famously did..wasn’t too successful. Lance Armstrong did - which spectacularly backfired
