Im looking at buying a utility club either the Cobra baffler or the Mizuno. My question is what shaft/flex should I go for, my irons have a steel shaft regular flex but my driver has a graphite shaft with a stiff flex.

Silly question I know but any input would be great.

Thanks

Hi, I've got the Cobra TWS Baffler. they only come in graphite shafts, mine is the stiff Aldila DVS.

I think it's an awesome club, I can smash it off the tee 230-240 yards, lay it up shorter about 160-170 with a 3/4 swing, and I use it for low punch shots.

Today, my driver sliced a tad right into some trees, about 130 yds from the pin. There were a few branches in the way for a normal 8 0r 9 iron shot. I used the Baffler to hit it about 4 feet off the ground for about 90 yds, then it rolled nicely onto the green, 8 ft putt for birdie !

I thoroughly recommend the club http://www.cobragolf.co.uk/utility_metals/details.asp?id=11

Shaft flex depends on lots of things. Swing speed, tempo etc etc. If you've got regular shaft irons, I'd probably say a regular in the baffler should do. But the best way, as ever, is to try regular and stiff shafts and see which one comes out on top.

I agree it's best to try as many clubs as possible to and see what's best for you, in performance, price range, looks , feel etc etc.

FYI, my irons are all S/Steel reg flex, but my Driver, 3 Wood and Baffler are all Graphite Stiff, it's just how my custom fitting went.

I went to the pro wanting Callaway or Nike, but was then torn between the TM Burner irons or the S9's, after another basket of balls, I made my choice. Not what I expected to walk away with, but I've never looked back !!

Enjoy trying them all out !!

Just to further Gustavo's post - don't forget there is no standard for shaft flex. Gus's stiff flex may be the same as a regular in another brand or may be x-stiff in a 3rd. So don't rely too much on the words on the shaft - concentrate on how well you hit it.

Hard to say. Most reg graphite shafts feel quite "soft/whippy" to me compared to steel. That is why I bought stiff graphite irons (they felt good) and then took a year to discover what a foolish move this was. If you are getting on fine with a stiff graphite driver, I'd try them both out and if there's nothing in it, go for the stiff.

Having said this, utility/hybrids do often have quite heavy graphites in already (65-80 gram-ish) so it may not be so simple to compare various clubs. If it was a Callaway, I'd opt for the regular myself, but recommend stiff for you.
If it's the Cobra, same deal. The Cobra uses some Aldila shaft i.i.r.c. at 65g....this is on the light side, so again, I'd go for stiff.

Confused....yes, I am.
