Like an old wooden headed three wood?

Big Stu - Yes I did play that round at Nairn with wooden headed 1 and 3 woods. And yes, I am very good.

MacMachattie, I think there's a hickory open you can enter. I think it's played at Musselburgh - you'd be a shoe-in

Cheers for the tip chipin1. I'll get my entry form in straight away. Hope it's all in old fashioned dress too. I could dust off my plus fours and flat cap and get out my fake beard.

I'd love to be able to play 2,3 and 4 irons but until I have the confidence I'm gonna stick with the hybrid. It's just a lot more forgiving and I'm not afraid to take it out for the type of shot which I'm pretty sure I'd approach only with a fairly lofted iron normally. But i fully intend to one day drop the hybrid and get myself some long irons. I think the satisfaction of being able to use them properly would be immense.
