There's a couple that are told at our place.
First is this. Our Golf Centre a pay and play is owned by Clandeboye Estate which is owned by the Marchioness of Dufferin and Avawho is part of the Guiness family. Which also owns the grounds of Clandeboye GC which is leased out I heard 100 years.
It is said that Lady Dufferin requested the exclusive use of Clandeboye GC for 1 day for visiting family over from USA and other parts of UK and Ireland. On refusal by the Golf Club she then decided to build her own which she had full control of.
Another is that there is a tree right beside the last bay on our driving range and she won't allow it to be cut down because she used to swing on it as a child.
The entire area was forest at one point so how could anyone of 71 yrs old remember a single tree plus it was her Husbands family's estate not hers. Which also goes to show how could some clear a forest and build an entire golf course in time for a family reunion lol.
But people at our place still tell these 2 stories all the time.
