If this group had played the course as it should be i.e. starting on the first rather than being discourteous themselves then I don't think we would be discussing this.

I am in agreement with the sentiment that you should not let it spoil your game, but that is so easy to say. We've all been there when we've had a crap day and are looking forward to our game and someone who has no clue as to how to behave winds us up. It would be so much easier if people were aware of how they should behave in the first place and this is where I think the continent has us at a disadvantage. I believe it is common for there to be a requirement for players to be aware of the required etiquette before they allow them to play.

It never ceases to amaze me the amount of people that get annoyed when held up by the group in front. Relax man it is a game you play for enjoyment let them know you think they were pretty ignorant but let it go over your head. As for writing a letter what's the point? all that will happen is people will think you are the club moan and avoid you.

"Let the club deal with them" is right and in this instance the members are the club so put your letter in. Starting on the 3rd, losing 2 holes on the group in front, not letting quicker golfers through.... what more needs doing before you think it's wrong? Spare a thought for the later golfers backing up behind the O/P, how long will their rounds take?

Get the letter written. Cutting in and not letting you through. Cutting in, not letting you through and they weren't in the comp whilst you were. Yes, try not to let it bother you, and have some banter/craic but there's no excuse for ignorance.

I'm with the man here. How can any group cutting in front of someone in a club comp and two holes behind play be considered right. Their attitude clearly shows a lack or respect, not only to the etiquette, but to the fact that it was an official club event. I'm sorry but I'd be putting it in writing and naming names if only to try and stop it happening to others. It seems that would be the only way they'd get the message

I usually call the pro shop when this happens and amazingly a buggy rocks up with a marshall within about 5 minutes. I can't stand slow play that holds you up. If someone doesn't mind playing slowly then they shouldn't mind letting you through

I'd have felt exactly the same. I don't like rushing my round as we do play to relax and enjoy ourselves, but, being held up when playing well is so frustrating.

Think so far you have handled it pretty well. My next step would be to speak with the pro, point out the offender and ask him to have a word. Explain to the pro that you think she needs educating and the alternative would be a letter.

At least you will have shown restraint and still done something about it.

Gentlemen.

Just to update the thread. I went to the course last night to drop off my letter of complaint. Handed it to the competition sec' in person, who was the only one I could find, then proceeded to the noti ce board to see where I had come and to see my inevitabe 0.1 back.

About 3 minutes later the competition sec' asked if I had a minute.

"Sure"

Took me to his office, pointed out the window at 2 lady members and asked if it was them that was the cause of the letter. I had a look and confirmed it was. He says

"Are you sure you want to take this further?"

I Ask "Why? Is there a problem?"

He then points out that she is related to the club president, sister-in-law I think he said.

I confirmed to him that both myself and my father wanted this issue addressing, not just for personal gratification (.... Well maynbe a little ) , but to show that the club takes complaints of this nature seriously, regardless who it was.

He shook my hand and sais "FINALLY, I've been waiting for someone to say that!!"

Turns out they are reported quite regularley but when people find out who they are complaints are suddenly dropped.

I've been told to expect and official reply from the club within the next 10 days.

I'll update the thread again when I get it.

You've done the right thing, and regardless how much you enjoy playing there, don't give them any more cash if the problem isn't addressed.
