I watched this last night and, although I'm no softy I genuinly felt sorry for these people. A family with 6 kids and Croydon Council say they made themselves homeless, him working nights on the buses - all they really needed was some help. A lady evicted from her home by Barclays Bank for being behind on the mortgage. She has been having treatment for breast cancer and had to stop working whist receiving treatment - this is how we treat our own! A former city broker sleeping on a park bench - would that happen if he were an immigrant?

Most of them were doing their best to sort themselves out, received little real help from my old home town of Croydon Council and I hope todays Sun don't lead with another Somalian family living in a £2m house in London on £35k a year benefits!!

Thought that myself Chris, in a week where the English White is now in the minority in London. You have to wonder where the country is going to end up.

I very rarely watch the news, pick up a paper and definitely don't watch documentaries like that last night.

It's a disgrace how citizens of this country can be treated who, especially, may have put into the system part or even all of their lives and then found themselves in financial trouble. And for what, trying to conform and make a life for themselves by working and paying their due's when they could! They then can be made bankrupt, lose their home, their possessions and become that ill with the stress of all that happening to them, they take their own lives!

This against the free-loaders (ours) who have never worked a single day in their life, and don't want to, and are happy to live off the state taking advantage of every benefit available. Do not mix this statement up with those who genuinely want to work and are actively seeking employment and making the best of what they can.

We are second class citizens in our own country and I think if the figures were not manipulated by the government, the true figures of poverty in this country would be staggering, and yet we still find millions if not billions every year to send out of our country to other countries! I have no problem with that if we can afford it, and if our own house is in order, but it isn't!

The old, frail and vulnerable of this country will once again suffer with the cold this winter with ever rising prices and colder weather frightened to turn up their heating whilst the corporations are allowed to announce record profits.

Against that we will still accept non-skilled immigrants and put a roof over their head, feed and clothe them.

I do not think their is a single party that can address this as they all have their snouts in the trough.

I don't think were in a recession, I think were on the edge of a depression!

WTF have we done and created.

Chris
Did the family of 6 make themselves homeless by refusing to comply with a financial packedge offered to them by the council which would have enabled them to stay in thier house. I think like the Trump programme we saw selected bits that made the programme.
The lady with cancer was treated very badly. I am surprised that social services did not support her.

But the other family were just fools £500k house with a 100% mortgage and a sole buyer for his companies products.

The banker looked like he had 'issues' and also looked like he could live off his fat for a few months.

I take your points Doon, but didn't the family just need some proper help? The dad was clearly doing his best and was at least working. Surely they could have been helped to stay in their house and not illegally dumped into a one bed place.

The lady with cancer - totally agree but I think Barclays could have helped more I would have thought

The other family - yes, could possibly have sold their house and moved downsize but there was no facts given as to equity in their house

The banker - I though came across well, he was obviously bright but didn't overly criticise anyone or anything and just got on with sorting himself out but no one should be expected to sleep nights on a park bench and, I guess he had paid more into the system than most over the years!

I am, as I said, not a soft touch, I was bought up largely fatherless in Croydon by a mother with 4 other brothers and sisters and things were tougher then, as the benefits were no where near as generous as now, but, these people were crying out for help and fair treatment and didn't get that in my opinion. It seems that we look after non British better than we do our own!

It's shameful that sucessive governments have all been run by the spinless for which none of them have actually got any brains or balls. Pandering to the voice of Brussels, you must do this, you must do that and when I say jump you say how high has helped put us in the position we are in now.

The present government tells the voting public they are going to have a referendum on whether or not to stay in european community, but they are not going to ask the simple question with a yes/no answer, the question will be worded in such a way that no matter what the outcome is, the spin doctors can manipulate it to whatever the government decides.

Until there comes a point in time that the UK's borders are closed to all imigrants, this country will continue to be flooded by those looking to take adavantage of our very liberal benefits and allowances.

The one thing that I really do not understand, is that the UK allows imigrants in from all over the world, with those imigrants looking for a better life and standard of living, but then those said imigrants denouce the western lifestyle and try to turn the areas they have moved to into replicas of the countries they came from. That just baffles me.
