Trilby Teens

Yep but it would be even better if Big Willy used his influence and connections with Sky, Callaway, Marriott etc to set up some sort of foundation to promote junior golf instead of milking it as another cash cow.

I agree. Perhaps some sort of easier to access feeder event with national qualifiers and then a big, brash TV covered grand final. Still gets the TV coverage (and exposure) but would be making it far more inclusive

Rubbish, I'm not rich by any means but if my lad wanted to enter then I could afford that amount by using it as a Christmas or birthday present, how can kids on TV playing golf be a bad thing, they aint going to have a sign round there neck with dad's earnings displayed. Surely it would attract kids in to the game, for a relative small amount the chance of playing golf on Sky, just like Rory, most would love it,

I don't care what anyone says this alienates a lot of juniors.

Yes you have the flashy juniors at all clubs, tour bag, electric trolley, dad caddying. They'll be the ones entering this event further widening the gap between the haves and have nots.

Little Johnny who has an old set of cut down mizunos will not be playing in this event, and rightly so.

However, i agree that kids on sky sports is a good thing, and this event is a good thing but not at £300 a child

Never entered TT, no interest, even happier now I've read the experiences on here, already put entrance fee is ridiculous, just seems at times some people are in a no win situation, for whatever reason he runs these events we get Golf on TV and no issue with them filling up, he's now including kids, again something I've never seen other business men do. It's easy to sit on a forum and come up with better ideas, but it's his name and reputation he's risking.

I totally get what you say and he's clearly a man with a passion who has invested time and resources and to his credit, this has become bigger and bigger over the years. I don't think it's a question of coming up with better ideas as there are initiatives out there that many clubs have signed up to which is far more inclusive. I'm not saying Trilby Teens is a bad idea, just elitist through the cost

£285 is nearly three times our juniors annual membership fee. How can that cost be justified ? A few quid less than the adult cost, and surely all the lovely quality clothes would be cheaper for kids, no VAT ?

This might encourage a few kids to take up the game, but it is more likely to put a lot more off what will look like an expensive. elitist sport, that I thought the game was trying to get away from.

Oh well at least someone will make a lot of money, and get more air time, and that is what this is all about.

The experience is having the cameras on you while playing the round and I am assuming a fair few spectators watching you.

You think?
I played at Bearwood Lakes a good few years ago now.
They video'd you going off the 1st tee, another bloke was walking around with a camera at the 13th, and they had a camera behind the last green.
Hardly blanket coverage, and the only spectators I saw were the guys who were in the two groups behind us and their caddies who had all been called up to the 1st tee 20 minutes early to...

A) Avoid being DQ'd.
B) To make it look "busy" for the camera.

And don't forget the rule that if it's raining and you put your waterproofs on for protection, you won't be shown in the coverage even if you win it because you've covered up his tat clothing.
Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed the day. But it was at a "decent" course (where the green fee is nearly £100 anyway) and other than Mr Hunt parading around threatening to DQ everybody, it was well run.
But to pay what they are asking now, to play on some of the goat tracks they hold it????
Not a chance.

Well it gives a good impression of that then.
