The Trilby Tour gets bashed often on here (rightly so) as its overpriced and on some terrible courses.

Anyhow, i've just seen about the Trilby Teens and my first thought was 'Fair play, a competition for juniors to enjoy'

Then i saw that they are charging £285 for the pleasure!!

£285 for a teenager (or most likely his parent) to pay is absolutely disgusting!!

To be perfectly honest Sam, it really doesn't surprise me.

Big Willy is only interested in the money!!

The cost is ridiculous, but on the other side if it does encourage kids to play, either by playing in it or seeing it on Sky coukd be a positive spin off!

Shocking competition! Cannot believe the popularity of it. I foolishly entered it a couple of years ago and got a load of tatt for my entry fee and played on a tatty course.
Where do they get the prices from?!

The TT approached Remedy Oak a few years ago about hosting an event there, the cost was £25k

'Yes please' said Remedy.

'Erm.....YOU pay US for the privilige' said TT

'On yer bike!' said Remedy

That's how tours work, the courses pay the tour for the privilege of hosting.

Its supply and demand though. How can it be overpriced if they continue to sell out the event year after year ? Its not everyones cup of tea, but a lot of golfers love it.....so i say fair play to WH and the TT.

I dont play, but i do enjoy watching it on tv.

With regards to the teens event, if it sells out and proves popular, you cant condemn them from doing it.

It such a short sighted way of looking at things. We are constantly talking about encouraging Juniors to play the game but people think its ok to charge £300 for a 16yo to play in an event??

thats 3 years junior membership at my club!!!

Oh and the main event sells out because all these choppers see it as an opportunity to get on TV with their helicopters swings.

I looked entering my nephew in some of the Westwood tour events when it first came out and bulked at the £85ish entry fees albeit for top 100 courses.
£15 for Birkdale ganton junior opens is the way to go!

£85 seems cheap now though right?

I get juniors wanting to be on TV so can definitely see there being a market for it. but surely £150 would be more appropriate?

I also hope parent arent allowed to caddy. bloody annoys me

To be fair the TT is the only event that offers that kind of experience to handicap golfers so I can see why people pay up to be a part of it. Personally not my kind of thing.Extending it to juniors does seem a little krass as that kind of cash is very restrictive and doesn't go along the lines of grass root development. Having said that it's not there responsibility to do so.

I agree.....the view is short sighted from a golfing ideology perspective.

However, its a business venture. Id argue the TT does not exist to satisfy the beliefs of the common golfer, it exists because there is a demand for it and it makes money......and has done for quite a few years now.

True on the Pro tours but I'm not aware of any other amateur tour that gets paid to host events. Somehow I can't see Sunningdale paying the EAGT to hold one of their events.

I'm interested to know the 'experience' that it offers golfers? I'm not saying your wrong, but what is the perceived experience you get?

The reason i ask is that every single open i play in - announces you on the tee and has a live scoreboard in the clubhouse.

How many other tours get the same level of publicity / audience as the TT though?

I'm sure more people watch the TT than they do the Europro Tour.

That said, however, I don't think any high quality course would pay the TT.

I wouldn't want to enter, but I understand the appeal. The biggest reason I wouldn't enter is the quality of the courses on offer. If it were a good course that I wanted to play, then paying the extra £200 or whatever it would be for the televised TV experience wouldn't feel so bad.

The juniors event is costly, but I can't see how that's bad for the game. If that's the only wa we end up with junior golf on Sky Sports then so be it, can't see that being anything but positive.

The experience is having the cameras on you while playing the round and I am assuming a fair few spectators watching you. This is usually reserved for athletes that have reached a higher standard where as lot of people won't have acheived that at any sporting level.

I'll keep my £300.

I played in it once and I really couldn't believe how far up his own backside Big Willy is. Claiming the winner as a 'World Champion', DQ'ing people for not being on the tee 20 mins before tee time, proclaiming high handicappers to be short game wizards (rather than exposing them as bandits!!) and all the rest of the ego massaging that takes place.

After the event, I was actually hoping I wouldn't be shown in the TV program and fortunately I wasn't. My mate was in the rogues gallery though :D

Add in the fact that Sky and Callaway both sponsor it and you see the crap quality clothing and bag, you soon begin to see what a huge rip off it is for the competitors.

A fool and his money are soon parted. Never a truer word spoken

That sounds exactly how I imagine it to be!

I don't really understand the strong reaction it provokes in some people though; if you don't like it, don't enter and don't watch it. I find it relatively entertaining - it very much is what it is!

Mid Am golf tour and EAGT offer the same expirence but with far better courses and better value - you just don't have sky there and a guy in a hat
