Hi I live down on the south coast

I have an elderly disabled father-in-law who lives in East Yorkshire about a 6 hour drive each way

He has a number of good quality wood working tools large pedestal drill, wood turning lathe and stands etc, in all it I think it would easily fit in a transit type van that he wants to give to me

We shall be returning shortly and I of course could hire a van to collect

Just wondering if you know of any other transport options, the complication being that all will have to be manhandled out of his shed to road side and into van

Any suggestions ?

Thanks in advance

Carrier companies will not pack for you. They want to arrive, load up and be off.

You could look at getting a dedicated driver. They are a bit more amenable as yours will be the only job that they do that day. However you will pay dearly for the service so it depends what the cost of hiring the van and your time is worth. Saying that you may get lucky with a more relaxed 'man with a van' type scenario. The type that advertises locally rather than a professional dedicated driver / courier set up. They may be willing to do the job and could be more affordable. I'd recommend looking at your FiL end rather than the south coast. Services tend to be cheaper up there. It could be a fun trip for someone to take on.

See if Fish on here (Robin) has any return loads from Yorrkshire, may be able to deliver them to you over a few runs. He may need pictures/weights.

If not a man and a van locally to either may do it as a one-off cheap run.
