If anyone around the North West is thinking of getting custom fit, I cannot recommend Nick at Tour X Golf in Wigan highly enough.
I've been fitted at various shops/driving ranges/demo days, but this guy takes it to a completely different level.
Went for an iron fitting, was first asked if I wanted to maximise performance of my existing irons or was I looking to change (no pressure to buy new)
Asked about h/Cap, playing style, good & bad shot, what I was hoping to achieve etc
Even asks you which make & model of ball you use, and gives you those balls to hit with.
I was in there for 2 1/2 hours, hit 8 different makes/models and gradually narrowed down the search
Uses Trackman and explains all data you can see
Nick used to work on Tour for Adams, and when you collect your Clubs, he puts you back on Trackman to ensure you are 100% happy with your purchase
He must have every possible make and model of shaft you could ever think of, hanging on the walls, choice of dozens and dozens different grips
Very, very happy with quality of service, attention to detail is incredible.
I'm picking up my irons tomorrow and having a driver shaft fitting with him

Only ever heard great reports about him, glad you found the same

I may well find myself there sooner rather than later for irons. My interest in the geeky side of fittings has increased after the Edel putter fitting!!

Nice one 👍 What you get buddy? Not jealous at all!

Wonder what happens if you hate them 2nd time around? You start again from scratch? And for the same price? I'd just do it for a laugh, then say na, think I like them first ones we done. Bit like shopping with the mrs

I was rather hoping you where gonna say it's a load of baloney, and just go buy some shovels!

If I ever get down to 12...

I got a set of Callaways from Nick and Nicola and had them for a couple of seasons. The fitting and the process was superb. He knows his stuff.

I wished I'd have listened more to him as, looking back, I pretty much had an idea of what irons and shafts I wanted before I went in. The numbers were great with what I had in mind, (Apex with XP95 shafts), but I should have got a combo set of Apex and Apex pro's with a slightly heavier shaft. The lighter shafts in the end didn't work for me.

Quick update...
Tour X are now offering a full iron fitting, a lesson with Phillip Archer and a putting lesson with Lee Sullivan for £150. Usual price £220. For one more week only.

I'm almost relieved I bought my irons on impulse before seeing this, could have turned into a very expensive day out with new irons on top!!

Thinking about it mate. Made enough money from the American golf offer to pay for it. Not looking for new irons, but will optimise my current set I think. It's a really good offer, especially considering the calibre of the coaches. The start of a winter project I think.

 let us know how you get on. Phil Archer is supposed to be an awesome coach.

I getting some of that action.

Just read my terrible grammar above....

Anyways

I am booked on for the first week in January as the Black Friday deal is still available. Whole bag Optimisation session with Nick, then putting lesson with Lee Sullivan and then a lesson with Phil Archer.

Cant wait.

Also happy that i changed my mind regarding having a new driver fitting and have instead gone for the optimisation session. I could do without falling in love with a new boom stick so soon after Christmas...

Ill report back

Heading down tomorrow for a driver fitting. From speaking to Barry Taylor my coach I'm expecting very good things. Barry reckons if we can get the launch and spin down I should expect to see some very good numbers. Looking forward to it, my first proper fitting experience, so I'll post back once I've been!

Hi looking at a driver fitting myself.
How did prices compare at tour x incoparision to AG say. DO you pay for fitting session then source your own club or do they supply?
THANKS

I didn't actually end up getting a new driver in the end from TourX. I had my fitting and although a couple of drivers were giving marginally better numbers than my 910D2, they just weren't sufficient enough improvements to warrant shelling out £440 for an Epic, as much as I wanted to. The experience was fantastic though. The set-up Nick has created at TourX is top drawer. I tried 8 or 9 of the new drivers with different shaft combinations and probably spent around 90 mins there, was great.

At TourX you pay £80 for the driver fitting, and you're paying for Nicks time, so that doesn't come off the price if you decide to buy. There's no pressure to buy at all, Nick encouraged me to go away and think about it before making a decision. If you're looking for a proper fitting (which you WONT get at AG), then TourX is the only place to go in the NW. Nick looks at the numbers you're getting with your current driver with the ball that you use (I use Chrome Softs and Nick had a couple dozen ready to go, he has a ton of balls and tees, so whatever you use Nick has), and will then ask what you're looking for and fit you to your specifications. You won't get a better service anywhere else.

Another bonus for me on the day was being introduced to Phil Archer. Phil's started offering lessons down at TourX so Nick introduced me and asked Phil to give me a few tips and then hit a shot for us. Nursing a sore wrist, Phil picked up the nearest driver to him, stepped up and absolutely ripped one. The noise it made off the face was just unreal, as were the numbers. Cranked one out there at 310, and that's with a driver not suited to him and with a sore wrist. Unreal.
