A few mates and I spent an evening at Top Golf in Surrey last night. Basically (for those that don't know), it's a driving range with a twist. The balls are chipped and each ball is registered to a particular user. You can then shoot at 'greens' which are dartboard type targets, to score points. The scores are updated 'live' on a screen in the bay. There are several dfferent games to choose from and when playing with friends it can get quite tactical regarding how you maximise your points.

Include waitress service, beer, and food, it was a great fun evening. Though I'd probably not suggest it if you prefer library type quitness for a private practice session.

At £8.50 for unlimited balls, it represents damn good value. Especially when compared to the usual £6.50 for 100 balls at the local range down here.

As a bit of fun with the 'lads', I'd rate it.

Is that the one in Addlestone? I've some mates from that area who use it regularly although I've never been. I've used the main one they have at Watford and it is good fun and a pleasant change from the normality of just standing and hitting balls

I've seen the one at Watford as its attached to the AG but I've never had a go.
It's the closest one and even then its 40 minutes away. If one were closer I might go..

I'm a member of the one at Watford. I take my 6 year old daughter and she loves it. It's a great fun way to introduce kids to the game. Last year they held an England vs USA competition where all the UK Top Golf Centres played against all the USA ones, the scores were broadcast live as we played.

I've never heard of that ! Does anyone know of one in the North West, i'd love to give it a go.

Play-golf in Manchester is the best equipped local one for me, but its a tad expensive.

I went to the Addlestone one a year or two ago. As you said, good fun - a sort of mix between bowling and the driving range.

I registered and hit something like 60 balls, and at one point found quite a good rhythm, going for a green about 110 yards away and scoring quite nicely on it. The "Bonus" shots that say, "Hit 20 points here for a free game" really do get the nerves up.

Just be careful of the "Driving Range" option, that tells you it'll measure the distance of each shot...it only tells you the distance if you get the ball in one of the Dart-Board targets, and the furthest ones were at 250 yards I think.

A good potential place to visit on a Stag Day or something perhaps.
