First Open, playing alongside the legend he is named after and he shoots 65 and is tied for the lead.

Well played young man.

Excellent day at the office.......
Just hope he can keep it going.over the rest of the tournament and doesn't do a Pampling...

I'm over the moon for him.

His Dad Bryan has been coaching me this year :D

I've never met Tom, but some of the other guys I play with who are also coached by Bryan have, and they say he's a genuinely nice lad. Really humble.

I think he's had good advice from the start as Bryan is an ex-touring pro.

Can't wait to see how he gets on tomorrow.

What a prospect for the future!
I thought how cool, calm and collected he was. After the 16th I wondered how he would handle the pressure of the last 2 holes. Although his approach was just off the green on 18, he still managed a par to finish and became joint leader.

For a 20 year old he showed a lot of maturity in his interview after too, and was nice to hear his respect of Tom Watson.

Golfmmad.

Very steady, very calm - good to watch
plus he has a caddy who seems to know his job (shame about the sandals) and he seemed prepared to listen to him

Staying an amateur until after the Walker Cup - though if he's looking as good come Sunday I suppose he could be tempted

Haven't seen any of the golf today but he obviously played extremely well. I hope it continues but whatever he does this week that he takes his time to consider when is right to turn pro rather than doing a Rose and going too soon. Look at people like Sam Hutsby. Went on tour last year and struggled and then didn't make the grade at Q school and so relying on invites to earn enough to get back out there. Yes there's a lot of cash on offer but a lot of guys chasing it and so it isn't a given to retain playing rights.

Young lad up at our club off 1 plays with him. 2 days ago he told me to put a bet on him as he could do well!!!
Wish I'd listened to him....... :o

I noticed his swing, it's beautiful, compact and very controlled.

If I'm not mistaken both he and Bjorne are coached by Pete Cowen, I could be mistaken though.

Nice post round interview today.

After his 74 the interviewer said something like

'I expect you're still hoping to be top amateur?'

Although the reply was polite, you could tell the young lad thought that was a stupid comment. He basically said that his pre tournament expectation was top 15.

I think he might well make it.

He's only two years younger than Rory, and I think he expects to be at that level sooner rather than later.

Good luck to the lad.
