What are your views on this? I think it should be made 100% illegal, 4 times lately i have tried to buy tickets to various concerts, each time they have sold out in minutes. The problem is that within minutes these same tickets are on sale at places like Viagogo for often many times face value. Its one thing to sell on a ticket because you cant go , but allowing the re selling of tickets for profit should be banned.

Totally agree with you.
The hours I have spent over the years trying and failing to buy tickets at the time they are released.
How do touts do it ?

I've been stung by it a few times and it's infuriating. That said there are lots of examples of people using supply and demand to make money off of things that don't seem to cause the same cries of foul.

People that buy limited edition items for example. With no intention to use, simply to hold on to and sell at a later date.

The way round this, as is done in some instances, is to have a name on the ticket and the ticket holder has to have id with them that matches. It sounds a hassle but we would soon accept it as normal. You would not need it for all events but for big demand events, why not? I believe Ed Sheeran did this for his last tour, screwing all viagogo sold tickets.

Some resale sites are okay if they work with the club / venue. Everton work directly with StubHub, I bought NY Mets tickets via StubHub last summer, less than face value, as well which worked smoothly.

Those that just scoop up tickets to sell at a profit, total contempt for them.

You were done, they normally can't give Mets tickets away... ;)

Well this is a first, everyone in agreement! (y)
I know right!

You should be able to resell for face value if you can’t make it, but never for profit! It’s disgusting

So many people use their presales to buy the tickets and sell em off

I think tickets should be sold on a ballot basis, register your interest during the period of a week or so and then get drawn out of a hat. Stops the bots getting there first then.

I'd certainly like to see bands, promoters even the government do a lot more to put a stop to it, I mean its not like going to a concert is cheap anyway.

I believe the government are tightening up, I think Ticketmaster has shut down the 2 ticket reseller sites it used to run. And MPs warned punters to avoid Viagogo recently. Plus I see that more artists are pointing people towards sites that sell on at face value to other fans, we had a spare ticket for a sold out Neil Finn concert recently and did that via one of those sites. And some artists are making it harder for the process to occur. This is take from Ed Sheeran's web site

The Promoters of Ed Sheeran are committed to combating resale of tickets. Therefore, we are operating a new paperless ticketing system, via our approved outlets. No tickets will be issued in advance. The payment card used to originally purchase tickets will gain you admission to the show on the day. Upon arrival at the show, you are required to present your original payment card (debit or credit card), original email booking confirmation and a Government-issued photo ID such as a driving license or passport that matches the name on the payment card.
On the night of the event you will need to bring along a printed copy of your confirmation email. Your ticket into the event is your card so please remember to bring the SAME credit/debit card you used at the time of purchase and some photo ID (such as a driving licence or passport). The name on the ID must match the name on the card in order to verify your purchase. Your credit/debit card will be swiped as you enter the venue and your details will be confirmed as you make your way in.

There will always be scum bags who just want to make a profit by snapping up pre-sale tickets but I think it is getting a bit less socially acceptable. There's a special place in hell for those that do it for concerts aimed at kids for me. As if you price kids out of the live concert going experience then you will end up with fewer life long music fans.

Suppose they'd just create hundreds of thousands of fake email addresses and register through those though to vastly increase their chances of getting them? In a way a lot of artists do this in that they allow fan club or newsletter subscribers pre-sale access to try and ensure the fans get them. But I suspect that is also open to manipulation as anyone can sign up for those.

I was trying to get tickets for BTS at wembley for my daughter and her friend, it sold out within minutes, but there are 1000s of tickets available for well over the odds on viagogo, stubhub etc. I have written to my MP asking what the government have planned in this area.
BTS put an extra date on and I was able to get tickets for this in the end.

Iron Maiden have done this for their last few shows at the O2, its not perfect, but it goes a long way to stopping the rip off merchants

I am proud of the fact I had to look up BTS on google as I originally thought you were buying tickets to British Home Stores.

dont forget that the bands or whoever you want to see never actually sell these tickets in the first place but say they have ,then put them on the tout sites themselves at vastly overpriced value of the original ,money money money ,and all to them .

There have been a few cases of tickets appearing on resale sites before they even have gone on actual sale! This is why the government needs to legislate against it. There needs to be a mechanism in place if you really need to re sell your ticket, but the blatant profiteering has to stop.
