***** Sheild for short.

Tashyboys comp for the closure of Thoresby pit is played on Wednesday at Norwood.
the banter between the lads has started. One lad who finished work last Friday has played every day an his missis is goin mad.
He said " am not looking stoopid WI me first drive"
the ususal Bandits have been polishing there leather wedges.
Tashyboy has found an old Spike shoe which is now sprayed gold along with a ball and is mounted for the winner of the KO comp.
gonna be a good in.

Well we played yesterday. 59 lads past and present turned up and it was a fantastic day. The course was gorgeous and it's a real boost listening to players from more established courses ( Sherwood, Worksop) singing the praise of your course and greens.
players enjoyed the day, club made a couple of K, captains charity's made a few quid and everyone was a winner. The lads enjoyed it so much that next year is a deffo.

Grand days golf by the sound of it. But a bugger about the pit. Death of an era, mate - the death of an era. When I were a lad round there, you could see a turning headstock any direction you looked. Thoresby was the last. Shame.

Nice one!
Did the lad get his first drive away without incident?

Nope, leathered it 40 yd through the orchard and knocked three baby apples off the trees.
bloke who won the Golden leather wedge, his missis was close to tears because of the personal touch to it. 😳 in essence the 20 yr old grubby boot had GH on the tongue which just happened to be the initials of the winner. I never noticed (but took the credit). What does GH mean ?

Been today and it looks like it's me last saturday I will ever work, five days and counting til retirement.
fortunately (or not ) I was in York for the wife's birthday, on 10th July when the pit closed/stopped cutting coal and the pit was full of grown men shedding tears saying cheerio etc.
ah well one door closes etc
