Things That Gladden The Heart

Engineering officers are a well sought after bunch both in and after their RAF careers. One I know has just made the jump from RAF to BA not even as an engineer they’ve offered him scholarship on their pilot scheme.

Your lads made a superb choice imo, good luck to him and if he ever wants one drop me a msg and we can sort out a Familiarisation visit for him to get a look at everyday working life. Also when he’s settled at Uni look at RAF UOTC will help him with bursaries, credits and be good on his application for officer entry 👌

Thanks, we’ve been up to Lossiemouth for a few days last summer.
He’s currently researching how to join a Uni Air Squadron as we have one at Leuchars, 40 mins away.

Costs wise, Uni is free in Scotland and he’s looking to get a p/t job and just commute from home.

If it wasn’t for my kids I’d jump at a posting to Lossie in a heart beat, wonderful country side and lots of golf. Didn’t know Leuchers still had UOTC as it’s an RE Army camp now, we do a lot of exercises up there and even further up at Tain.

Sounds like he definitely has his head screwed on and what he wants to do. The only thing he needs to be aware of at pilot entry is fixed wing and fast jet aren’t guaranteed, pilots don’t get to choose their stream so he could end up in Rotary wing as well. Still a phenomenal career and hell of a lot of travelling, if he ever needs a hand with his recruitment don’t hesitate to ask. ❤️

Yeah, small squadron (90 students), meet 2-3 times a month. They do loads of work with ATC from there too, he’s currently a Sgt in the cadets so hopefully that helps too.

Thank you, appreciated. I’ll let him know and if he has any questions I can fed them on. He’s got 4 years of degree ahead first though 😬.

Every little helps, if he can get some sort of leadership skills in on the go it’ll also really help his case for OASC (Officer selection) at Cranwell, they love seeing that on the applications. I’ll still be about in 4 years, signed myself on for a few more with my new job role. So anytime he has questions ping them over even if I can’t help I know lots of people who can.
