The Voice

I was referring more to his "stable of artistes" system rather than the quality of his output which was undoubtdly a cut above :whoo:

Couldn't agree more that BG's work will still be getting played 100 years hence, however Cowbell and the others will, if lucky, be little more than a pretty obscure and hard to find footnote in music's history

Ah, that's alright then, I'll let you off…….. :D

Go on then, name them……….. ;)

You spin me round - Dead or Alive
You think you're a man - Divine
Better the devil you know - Kylie
Mel and Kim - Respectable
Never going to give you up - Rick Astley
Leave right now - Will Young
Since you been gone - Kelly Clarkson
What makes you beautiful - One Direction
Biology - Girls Aloud

I am not comparing these to Motown as there is far to much history and possibly reverence around Motown. And also I am not saying by any stretch that a lot of the stuff from SAW and Cowell is that good. But I would argue that they have produced a few great pop tracks that will stand the test of time as great disposable pop music. Which is how most kids get into music and to me is just as credible as angsty guitar based music produced by real men playing real instruments.

What does surprise me is that there's quite a lot of Proggers on here (self included) who are prepared to admit it. :o

I remember there was a time when the only way you could get a prog album was in a brown paper bag off of some dodgy geezer up a dark alleyway, and when you got home and played it on your Toshiba Music Centre, you were racked by feelings of crushing guilt and seediness which detracted from the exquisite pleasure you otherwise got from Yes's latest 8 LP Concept Suite about Far Eastern Yogic Philosophies.

*Lights a joss stick and puts Tales from Topographic Oceans CD on*

I can see some of the prog influences in some bands I like such as Elbow and Radiohead. You could also make a bit of an argument that prog slightly influenced Post Rock, especially in areas such as song structure and the length of the songs. And I am a big fan of post rock bands like Sigur Ros, Mogwai, Godspeed You Black Emperor and Shels. But as for listening to 70s prog from Yes and other bands then sorry, can't do it.

Like...wow guy, you had to be there man. It was far out and groovy.

Kinda beautiful. Like one day, man, I was listening to Yes and my sofa morphed into a spaceship and took me to another galaxy!

Think I've been stuck there ever since... ☀️😄

The power of "its who you know" My mate is 50 and having a bash later in the year. As I've mentioned before he's known Andrea Begley for years (long before the Voice) and has blagged her to sing at the bash. Jammy git as she's got a decent enough voice
