Don't the US have the best missile defence system in the world? They could have had a free test on that one.

Funnily enough it's called Patriot - and it's a completely different sort of system from Trident. Clearly Trident isn't defensive.

On your first question - I cannot comment (please don't ask me again )

On your second question - that is what Reagan's and now Trump's Star Wars programme is actually intended to achieve (it's a virtual dome for various reasons I won't go into).

But if the enemy can't hit you after you have hit them - then there is no MAD, and hence they might as well hit you before the 'dome' is in place. So the logic goes.
