The Oops Thread

Jeez nae wonder the UK is in such a state with all these snowflakes around.;)

BTW my Dad actually landed on the beaches in the second wave that crossed into Germany, he despised the Americans forces more than the Germans so if he was still alive he would probably have been mortified.

Snowflake??

Me?

😂😂😂😂😂😂

Aye right mate. 👍🏻

Missing Christmas because of what I thought was a virus, which then turned out to be the Flu. Still struggling now and looks like New Year is a goner as well.
Oh, and now both kids, my Mum and my Sister are all coming down with it!!!

Really find this odd.
He really despised Americans more than Germans, strange.

My late father-in-law was a Royal Marine during the Second World War. He never spoke much about the Germans but we were in no doubt as to his feelings regarding the Americans; despised may be a little strong but there was certainly little love for them. I think you probably had to be there to understand it.

My dad too.
Being born in 1939 I was old enough to remember ,towards the latter stages of the war ,in South London ,from the safety of the Anderson shelter ,doodle bugs flying over to hit civilian targets.
Anyway I never intended to make a big thing of Doons comments but I recall Care parcels funded by the ordinary American people distributed to schools towards the end of the war
As you rightly say " you just have to be there"

a brother in law oops from a couple of weeks ago.
we had finnished our round and had taken all the stuff off the buggy, i went to park the buggy and gave him my car keys so he could move the car as someone had decided to park a little too close for us to get in .i return from parking the buggy and locking the shed only to find that he hadnt moved the car,why is this i enquire cos i couldnt get the bloody key in the ignition,,i take the keys from him and proceeded to flip the key out of the fob, he had been trying to put my front door key in the ignition.
best bit it that its a volvo v70 ,yep what does he drive, OOOOOOOPPPPPPSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!

Spent 4 hours up on the terrace last night with the telescope and camera. Basically it has a handset controller with 40,000 objects preprogrammed, which makes targeting and tracking easier. However, you have to do an alignment on a couple of known reference points and save to the controller so that the scope knows what its aiming at.

Alignment on the North Star, Polaris, is done manually. No problem. Then I picked Altinak, the bottom star in Orion's belt, and pressed GoTo. Off the scope went, and got fairly close to what I thought was Altinak. The final targeting is done manually, and then you save that reference point. After that you just key in whatever target you want and off the scope goes, usually hitting the target on the nose.

I key in Orion's Nebula and hit GoTo. It gets close but not close enough. I'd forgotten that the finder scope flips the image 180*, and the reference point I'd saved, thinking it was Altinak, wasn't the right star.

Bear in mind that seeing a Nebula with the naked eye is very difficult, you might get a faint white cloud, and you need to take long exposures to see them in all their glory. 4 hours worth of imaging on Orion's Belt, and I missed it by half billion light years.

Almost as good as one of my approach shots then Bri 😂😂

American forces I said....not Americans.
Especially their air support bombers and field artillery on the run to Berlin.[/
Sorry I missed that pertinent point.
However your dads opinion was to to denigrate all American forces, a common view after the war, a view I feel a little blinkered .
What is your opinon?
Do you think the American forces advances into the Ardennes the push into Germany played no part in helping to bring an end to WW2.
