The joys of Country Living.

Spreading or spraying, thought you weren't allowed to apply FYM /slurry to frozen ground in case of groundwater contamination, or was the case 5 years ago before I left.

Spraying
I don't think oor farmers worry too much about rules.

A few months ago our septic tank was leaking waste onto the adjacent farmers field. So when I saw him, I said I was in the process of sorting it out. And he told me not to worry as he would spread it on his fields, as it was great for the crops. Suffice to say I have been very weary when I go to their farm shop.....;)

But as you say, the farmers tend to work by their own countryside rules.

A local farmer decided it would be a good idea to spread the remnents from his slurry pit on the fields next to where I live, there are no animal proof fences on the field and the local kids use it to play in. The problem was that there were animal remains in the stuff he spread on the field including whole rotting chickens, pheasents larger animal parts. The stench was unbelievable and after 3 days of it not subsiding I called the environment agency who came out to see how bad it was. The farmer ended up being fined for spreading what he did where he did.
If your in doubt about what a farmer is doing let the authorities sort it out.

Go back to where ye came from ye City Slickers .. leave the countryside to the real folk :D:lol::lol:

I am a country lad. I've worked on farms on and off since I was 12 it's not that he spread the field next to us, I understand it's something they need to do, it's what was spread on the field. It could have been spread on fields nearer his farm, 2 miles from where he did spread it, and it could have been spread well away from houses, not right next to a small estate with quite a few kids on it.
