Time was when one wedge was standard in a set of 9 irons, it had PW on the sole and sat happily with its brother the SW, well not any more. The proliferation of 'wedges' over the last few years has been extraordinary. I have tried quite a few but settled on 'Vokeys' a few years back. I have just bought a 46 degree with 8 degrees of bounce to replace my aged and balding 48. The 46 is a standard off the shelf model with chrome finish, it looks great. On the course its very versatile and sits perfectly between the 9 iron and the 52 gap wedge, its perfect from around the 100 yard mark but it comes into its own from about 20 yards where you can chip it low or higher and still get it to perform as you want it too. With so many loft and bounce options there really is a set of Vokeys for everyone, get custom fitted if you want, but for me the standard model fits the bill, they have a pleasing look at address, perform well and are not too aggressive on the ball face.
In my opinion its hard to beat the Vokey range, in fact I think we ought to stop referring to pitchs but rather say I have a 90 yard Vokey to the green, they are that good.
