Watched a piece about this on Newsnight last night - which actually focussed on poor uptake of the financing offered. That aside. I'm in a late 1910s semi that - despite all our efforts and expenditure over the last few years - still probably has multiple heat loss and other issues and hence energy saving potential. Anyone had any experience engaging with this program?

My interest in this has come about from being told that my central heating radiators - being mid 1960s vintage - are incredibly inefficient and knackered.

I'll go on-line for the scope of the scheme and Ts&Cs but looking here for any personal experience and/or tips, hints and advice on engaging with it.
 
Mines not much younger than yours circa 1940. Had loft and wall insulation and a complete central heating system. As long as the door to the conservatory is kept shut it stays nice and toasty.

So you were able to take financing to cover the cost of new radiators? We have a new boiler so that's fine. And yes - we also have that freezer called a conservatory. So keep kitchen door closed we are OK
 
We have got everything sorted and a 15 year old boiler that is still good for energy efficiency.
I got an 'International' call the other day from a guy offering me a free new boiler.
I let him rabbit on for a bit and it all sounded good.
He then said what benefits do you claim.....I said none.....he said... that can't be right you must claim some benefits..I said...no I don't claim any benefits and then the phone went dead.

Quite - my dear (82 yr old) mum's boiler has recently decided to retire. Fortunately it has given her some notice so she is able to sort out getting a new one. She's got a occupational pension - not huge, but enough as she is now on her own - as a result of slogging away for years feeding the young all over Renfrewshire as a dinner lady and school meals organiser. And this bit of pension excludes her from getting a 'free' replacement boiler - she gets it at a somewhat reduced cost but she still has to pay. Funny how some manage to get plenty for nowt and the rest of us just get nowt.
