If the venue was booked under the agreement that it's open until 12, then I would agree it's out of order for them to close up an hour early. Maybe a small reimbursement in order.

Anyone ever worked in a bar or restaurant? I did for a spell as a teenager. Trust me, watching people getting drunk whilst you are working is not fun. When your time is up you want to go home, any delays grate like you wouldn't believe. I get a landlord who has the pub as their business doing a lock in but an employee, no chance. They get to go home later than they should, when they are already tired, just so drunk people can get even more drunk.

Worked in a pub, restaurant and night club when I was at University.
Seeing other people get drunk never really bothered me.
But I was a student, so I knew it wouldn't be long until it was my night off and I'd be getting drunk too.
