The Club Captain says that a cut................

I was ask last weekend to fill in for someone who couldn't represent the club in a competition down at Hollingbury (Brighton) Our club were sending 3 teams down (6 in a team) in a stableford with the best 5 scores counting.

It was a 2 tee start with me going off at the 10th. After ripping my first tee shot just past the ladies tee, I proptly hack my way down the course and putt out for a 9 just so that i can get a feel of the greens.
A silly 3 putt at the 2nd gives me a 6 for 2 points. Another missed drive on three and a thinned shot through the green see's me lose 2 balls on a 288 yard par 4.

I start to find some form from the 4th onwards and get to the 9th tee with 14 points. I get two shots on 18 about 395 SI4(my 9th) and really connect with my drive, but the wind dies down and my ball ends up in the deep rough, my provisional is in the light rough on the left hand side. We dont find my original ball and I have about 160 left. I hit a punchy 6 iron and the ball shoots forward on to the green
to within 18 inches of the hole, no mistake with the putt, and i get away with a 5 for three points.

The good form continues where I pick up a 4 for four on their SI 1 hole, and I see myself through to a score of 21 points on the back 9 and a total of 38.

At the table for dinner we are chatting away and I see that that I am the highest scorer from my club and my team are 2nd overall. Sitting opposite from the captain he looks up and starts grinning it looks like a cut.

I'm not sure how many yet, presently I'm off 24.4 and a two shot cut will take me down to 23.6, so I might not actually change my playing h/c, much to the annoyance of the pair we have the in Summer KO quarter finals in a couple of weeks.

But hey a cuts a cut

Was it a qualifying comp? If it was then the cards would have to be signed and a CSS calculated and h'caps updated accordingly.

If it wasn't a ualifier all he can do is recommend a cut on general play and I would suggest that one round of 38pts isn't enough for a general play cut.

Not sure if it was a qualifier or not, as I said it was a team event with about 50 to 60 people involved. We did play of the white tees and all the scorecards were given back to the captain at the end of the meal.

As I'm a bit of a hit and miss player, consistancy is not a word I understand, I think they will take any chance they can to cut me.
Not that it worries me, I play for the fun it and enjoy the occasional really good round that gets the locals up and chasing the bandits.
Funny enough didn't have many chasing me when I hit 3 consecutive rounds of 21 points (in comps) during May.
As i said, Im not to bothered, like everyone else i try to get better, if it happens great, if it doesn't then i will keep Silver (my horse) ready for a quick getaway from the locals.

I was always led to beleive you cant get cut in team events. Maybe I'm wrong

There would also need to be a CSS.
