After being disappointed with my competition score on saturday (27 points) off an h/c of 26, I played again yesterday (Sunday) and started again with 1 point from the first 3 holes. I then go on to play some of the best golf I can ever remember playing scoring 27 points in the next 10 holes, including 2 birdies for 4 points each and two pars where I receive 2 shots on those particular holes giving me another 4 points on each hole.
I then knock 2 balls OB on the 14th, 3 putt the next 2 holes, lose another ball on the 17th and score nothing and get behind a fir tree on the 18th making me play backwards for a 1 point six and finish with 30 points.

One of the birdies (on the 7th) was almost an ace, with the ball sitting behind the hole by about 12 inches, and from its pitch mark I would have said it wouldn't have missed the hole by no more than a couple of inches.

Its just getting this thing called consistancy into my game, in 12 rounds of golf at my first club, I have now parred every hole at one stage of another and can boast about 2 birdies. I'm bloody determined to get this h/c down, even if I have to play more golf, tough decision that. Roll on Saturday.

If we were all consistent we'd all be off scratch!! lol Consistency is the holy grail.

If i total up the cumulative best scores round my local track i've gone round in 5 under par 65 as i've birdied 5 of the holes (1 hole 4 times) and made par on all of the others as some point recently......on Friday I shot 106!!!

I think the problem is likely to have come from the fact that you realised you were playing well and so were focussed on not making any silly errors which ironically will have led to you becoming more tense and trying to steer the ball.

Consistancy will come with time and experience. If you can learn to course manage and accept that sometimes you will hit a bad shot. The trick is to accept the outcome and focus on getting back into play as quickly as possible and minimising the damage.

You can clearly play the course well as your birdie blitz proved so just be a bit more accepting and enjoy the handicap drop that will follow

I think the problem is understanding whats written here as I can only get 29 pnts final score, or if I stretch the understanding of how its posted 33, sorry but I just cant get to 30, were you disqualified? :D

Anyway, just put it aside, dont let it bother you and move on to the next round. No point in worrying about it till you make a mess all the time. ;)

Good ol' pressure :) Gotta love pressure...second only to the grim reaper :)
Focus on the good holes, stick those memories in your memory banks and FEEL your way to repeating those scores.

Sounds like you put a good stretch together there for a 26 h/c

Regards...

Enjoy seeing your handicap drop like a stone when you start coming down....then comes the depression as you get lower, and shoot good scores, but see your handicap cut by .2!! its a frsutrating old game!!
