England are looking really good for the second test match. I am not the biggest fan of KP (a wee bit like Poulter, just when you say you like him he makes an arse of himself)but you have do tip your cap at an awesome display with the bat. Australia are piss poor it has to be said but England can only play what is put infront of them the same way Australia have done so easily in past contests. I think they will declare at 600 and look to skittle the awful Aussies out with time to spare. Warne must be looking on thinking he could still do far better than the pups out there being battered all over the Oval.

Stayed up and watched a couple of hours last night and it was all England. The Aussie bowling attack,Harris apart were rank with way too many "4 balls" especially with KP at his best taking a liking to most of then. With inclement weather forecast quick runs will be needed tommorrow then it's over to Swann to see if he can spin England to victory

KP is always good when there are runs on the board already,I never fancy his chances when he's in early, he was supposed to be the new no 3 a few years ago but couldn't take the presssure.

You couldn't really say he was up against much of a bowling attack either ;)

It was a brilliant display from the english, but lets try and finish the aussies off, to get a lead in the series. but i believe anderson and swann and the rest of the bowlers can do the job, so come on boys you can do it.

england or reject south africans? lets have an english/british team with proper management.
anderson, who is bowling as he should have done, is 5 years behind where he would have been if he was allowed to bowl at club level and learnt his trade.
i will never get excited until we get a team born and breed at home

Blimey mate you'll be wanting Yorkshire CC to only have Yorkshiremen in it like t'good ol days. They are picking players by the rules and so surely better to enjoy watching the Aussies get humbled on home turf (that felt good to type) than bitch about a selection process that isn't going to change

Yeah, like Hussein, Lamb, Hick and Grieg.....

Welcome to 2010 - to find a 100% 'English' team you'd probably need to go back to 1910!!!

Just putting in a word for Alastair Cook - an old boy of the Primary School where I am a governor - dad still lives in the village and played golf with him (dad, that is) earlier in the year. Thoroughly nice chap. I seem to recall AC made a small contribution in the first Test and this one as well.

My First XI Captain played with him in the England under 18s. AC was 16. My Captain said that back then he was a cut above.

One other player has scored more than AC at the same age - Sachin Tendulkar - nuff said!!!

The aussies have a very mediocre (especially by their standards) pace attack and no control whatsoever from their spinners, this puts incredible pressure on their batters to give them a target to bowl at.

The wicket looks like it is going to take spin so I'm expecting Swann to play a big part in securing the win.

Would be a whole different ball game if they still had Warne playing, who incidentally, had the best ever come-back line to a sledging "hey Warney, how come you're so fat?"......"because every time I f**k your wife she gives me a cake!" :D

This line was used a long time before Warne was on the scene.

It was Eddo Brandes and he said biscuit, not cake. And he said it in response to Glen McGrath when GM asked why EB was so fat.

You probably need to go back further than that! England have a history of fielding foreign players. The 'Bodyline' squad featured the Nawab of Pataudi!!!

the point i was making was, you get a young lad coming through, he may be nearly good enough for england, then bang another south african comes in, where is the incentive.
take nothing away from these players skills, but they are not english.
we would be the first to moan if australia started taking players from around the world to improve there team.
we are an island of nearly 70 million, most are born and bred here, i am sure we can find 11 to play a good level of cricket.

My favourite was SA Vs Aus. Mr Warne had given Daryl Cullenan a hard time and got him out every time he came out to bat, every time the two sides met. So out comes Daryl and Warne says I’ve been waiting for (However long it was) to bowl at you again. So Daryl says;” it looks like you spent the whole time eating”. Class. Warne still got him out for f*ck all anyway. :D

To be fair, that's a bit of a generalisation.

Trott and KP probably the only suspect ones and even then have legit English parents.

The likes of Strauss, Prior, et al, moved to the UK (with their ENGLISH mum and/or dad) when they were kids, so came up through the same system as every other English lad would have done. So I really don't blame them. They're hardly going to play for SA when they've lived here for the majority of their life, and "bred" here are they? :D

That is exactly my point regarding English football. The youngsters may be good enough to get into the top flight but their progression is barred by foreign imports. Bl***y EU regs. No wonder we are rubbish.
