The 10 Worst Golfers to Win a Recent Major Championship

:o
And to think I read through the list 3 times to be sure of not getting it wrong. :)

Not to excuse my sloppy reading, but only one in those 23 years? It still looks a bit lopsided.

I agree but people like Larry Nelson and Andy North perhaps made it difficult for the journo' by somehow winning more than one.

Anyway I still feel that these reviews are subjective and, thus, pointless. An American chooses to include Paul Lawrie whilst a Brit might say Justin Leonard and yet each was the best player in that particular week. Nobody can ever take that away from them.

When I played cricket a member of my own team once described a ton I scored as "rather streaky", my reply; "just look in the score book". That is how the players listed will, I am sure, respond to this article.

You read it and it provoked a reaction. Job done.

Absolutely.

Nothing to do with Patriotism, but Cambo should certainly be further down the list than he is - at least 'behind' Todd Hamilton.

And the question that could well be asked is why some of the pretty good ones - like Cambo or even Baker-Finch - don't use the unexpected win as a springboard - as opposed to a lead weight!

Just a thought, but could this not be done scientifically?

All it would need is a list of all major winners in the last 50 years, ranked by different criteria, ie: events won, cuts made, etc etc.

Then you could say that under X definition, these are the "worst" ten.

Those guys wins were as good as anyone else's, to get into a major is a serious achievment and to win one under pressure against the greatest golfers in the world in incredible.Sour grapes..what a load of crap......

Oh c'mon this is clearly just a tongue in cheek look at what the author thinks are the least successful (or worst) golfers who've played well enough to pick up a major

Not something to really be offended by surely!

Typical American rubbish.

The worst players to win majors recently have been:

Todd Hamilton
Rich Beem
Shaun Micheel
Ben Curtis
YE Yang

Paul Lawrie may not be a legend of the game but he has a much better playing record than any of those, and quite a few other major winners.

Special award for worst major winner goes to Andy North, who won two US Opens (one where he struggled to cross the line and the other gifted to him) and only one other PGA Tour event.

think there is a touch of American bias in this, seeing as he berates Paul lawrie for not winning in the US ever. would like to see a list of US golfers who "routinely are massively overpraised but in fact only managed to win one major in their entire careers even though large chunks of their careers were in between the jack Nicklaus and tiger woods eras when majors where being shared out by all sorts."

davis love, azinger (although admittedly suffered illness), corey pavin, fred couples, Justin leonard would spring to mind immediately, probably many others.
