That fake northern rugby want to charge holders to enter their competition?

I enjoy watching both - I think the ball handling skills and tactical side in Union is better but the pure physical side of league is impressive

Union players seemed to have done well switching codes- that Wigan team had a good number of them that switched from Union - Tuiagamala , Botica ? , Quinnell , Offiah

So just to clarify; Wigan knew nothing about a skill they didn't need in their code and Bath knew nothing about a skill that they did need in their code (y) Thanks for confirming that what I worked out all those years ago was correct ;)
It’s not about the code, it’s about the coaching & rugby ethos. The all blacks having been doing a pretty good fist of attacking rugby for years.

Both codes have their merits and I enjoy both. However trying to go head to head across both codes is a pointless exercise and proves nothing. Back to the OP's point thought the RFL are being very blinkered and short sighted in the damage it will do the game and the RL brand if the holders are excluded for want of a better word a ransom

I don’t know, but it’s the most northern thing I’ve ever seen 😱🤣🤣🤣
You've got to remember that every club had their own local videographer and commentator (back in the days when only the BIG games were televised). Wigan's was run by a company called Micron. It was only ever meant for local video release and the commentary was brilliantly biased.

I find League a bit boring. The size, physique, skill set of the players in League seems very samey.

It is in Union, where the requirements for a lock, prop, scrum half, or centre are different that you get mis matches in open play that allow things to develop. It is how to engineer the mis matches, or paper over them.

I don't watch much league though, so I could be wrong!

I'd never say you were wrong, but you're definitely not right.. ;)

League has developed from the days of huge prop forwards and 2nd rowers with a fast ball playing No13. They tend to try and develop athletes in every position. The Prop Forwards are now the same build as Loose Forwards in my time as a player. They are fast, skillful and tend to be good offloaders of the ball. Wingers are now the same build as Centres and can carry the ball in the centre of the field just as comfortably as they can beat a man on the outside.
This development has made the game more technical (and more telling on the body). However, it has removed some of the play that made RL one of the best visual sports in the World 20-30 yrs ago. You tend not to get the Martin Offiah type player anymore. He would get eaten alive in the modern game.

If you want to watch the greatest game of Rugby (across both codes), then tune into the State of Origin series from Australia. Those games are just an exercise in skill and controlled brutality.

I'm not a big rugby fan but when I see the odd union international I notice the difference between size of the players is greatly reduced from previous times. The physicality of union is very similar to league now, there are no light footed backs any more. There are now brick walls and bigger brick walls. I was very pleased when my son stopped playing, it is not a healthy game to be playing at top level.

Can I just say that I have no loyalty to either code and dont know enough about either to offer a good viewpoint, but a good discussion to look in on. (y)

BTW, if Purple Akie used to scare the Wigan boys, what would he do to the union boys?;)
