So 3.5 weeks ago I injured a tendon on left hand thumb to wrist (I'm RH golfer).... quite painful, 'brufen helped a lot and have not hit ball or swung club since and this week seems to be first time i'm not getting mild niggling pains....

Any, keyboard doctors, physios, or more significantly people with experience of this type of injury care to comment on further time off...?

I'm lightly exercising it with non strenuous daily tasks. Obviously I'll wait a while after pain free period but how long after for recupperation?

Other suggestions to ease back.... I'm happy to take it easy rather than loose months over summer by re-injuring it.

[BTW injury IMHO stems from practice off matt working on wrist hinge, to avoid crossing line....]

Best advice, get along to see your doctor. I thought I was suffering a simple shoulder injury and went about things in a similar manner to you. Rest, 'burden, a visit to the physio. To cut a long story short I'm still on the road to recovery after some serious surgery.

Don't be afraid of the men in white coats, they do know what they are talking about. Don't self diagnose, especially if it lasts more than a few days.

Cheers DCB. No probe with going to GP. I've been looking around for physios who would have experience with this type of injury which can be relatively common in golf. Most seem to be for impact sports and/or running injury - suspect they don't get lot of golfers, who'll probably lay up until better.

Did this make anyone else chuckle?

In all honesty I'd just go to a minor injuries unit or something and get it checked. You'll probably not even be sat down for 5 minutes before you're called - it isn't like A&E fortunately.

I had what sounds very similar in my right hand, ignored it for a long time and pain would come and go, then went for physio which didn't seem to improve it. I then went to a specialist surgeon and was told I had "dequervain's tendonitis".

Due to the physio and resting not working I had it operated on and had to take 3 months off of golf.

My advice would be go and see a GP or Physio ASAP and hope you get it sorted.

Yeah me.
I was trying to make a comment which wouldn't get me an infraction but couldn't do it.
