Seeing as there are a few other great threads regarding the Castle Stuart pics,
I was captured hitting a 56 deg from more than a yard or two short of the 17th green.
Looking at it, I cant believe how at ease I looked (and felt) considering I had a rediculous dose of the shanks not 3 weeks earlier and to be truthful, wasnt looking forward to possibly killing someone.
The difference a tip and a couple of practice sessions make!

Textbook Brendy!

Re that stuff you're playing out of I hadn't experienced it before CS, it looks like dead grass but it basically plays like soft sand, really easy to chunk one, you need a nice clean nip off of that stuff, hands ahead of the ball like Brendy there!

It actually reminded me of a dogs thick coat. It was pure white in places and really really thick especially round the 11th-13th.
The tip was to hinge the wrists quickly and get the feeling of picking the club up quite steeply, in theory it sounds akward but I was sweeping on the takeaway a little too much and this tighter lift gets back to the ball nicely.
Playing on the practice range at CS was a pleasure as I knew I wasnt going to scone the guy collecting the balls.

Hmmmm i'd have liked to have seen the picture of the golf swing that put you in the rough, I wonder if that looked as "at ease"????

Excuse me for saying....A bit self indulgent isn't it???

36 points was never a reality with some of my hooky drives that day, the short game actually saved me so many times.
As for indulgent, Absolutely! There are some great photos (dare I say it, very similar in quality to what you would see in the mag (Im talking about the majority, some clinker shots in there!) As I said, a few others have done the same and it was a fantastic trip up to scotland so why not.

For the record the thread title was a joke, coming from the shanks, there are plenty of things can be taught!

Have any of you guys got a photo you could share featuring a shot taken from the middle of the fairway? :)

The white hairy stuff was wider than some fairways!
It looked inviting enough to hit towards but the surface was very dimply and hard to find a good lie, in some cases the bunkers were more advantageous.

Could you please explain what a fairway looks like,or send a nice pic.

Sorry no photos only a definition.

Fairway - narrow strip of closely mown grass which separates two large areas of long grass, heather or gorse.

:) :)

At least you have something positive to build on now and can banish that dose of the rights to the history books. It does look a perfect position and could feature in any short game article. I think the "at ease" part is actually the key. If you're relaxed and confident the swing happens much easier and with no cohesive thought a bit like driving a car.

Has Bob been photoshop'ing pics again!! :D

That is one of the great advantages of being at these big GM meets. Professional photos of us mere mortals playing golf. A rare opportunty to have a decent pic of us doing something we love.

I've not seen any pics of Tiger doing something he loves recently though!! :o :D

good looking shot. I'm turning into a master at these as my shots are usualy from that kind of lie :o

Id say indulgance is ok for the next couple of weeks on the Castle Stuart threads, its not like we get to play places like that every day....well except for atticus who plays carnoustie and his likes.
There is also a shot floating around somewhere of me hitting my drive down the last, it was certainly given the message and ended up just off the fairway (for those that were there, there is certainly a bit of right to left run on the ball) leaving a 7 iron in, I cant remember hitting through the ball so well in a long time and actually ending up with a full through swing, I usually end a little shorter than complete. Certainly brought back to earth when I rushed the putt 5 foot past and missed the putt back, text book 5! haha.
