Taking up golf

You could spend eye-watering money like you can on anything and then give up a few weeks later.o_O
But, would you buy an expensive made to measure suit and then go on a diet? No
Don't spend any 'proper money' on clubs until your swing has settled down and you're sure you're going to stick with it and lastly, if you want to get better, practice don't purchase

You'll get banned with talk like that Bob!

Wish I was able to follow your advice.

Don’t make the mistake of thinking that new / better clubs will make you play better, lessons and practice will have more effect. And be prepared for a long uphill slog to get anywhere but definitely worth it in the end.

Loads of good advice to the OP on here. Lessons are definitely the way to start but you have to get onto the course and learn to play and take what you learn on the range and from the lessons and how to use them out there. You'll struggle and make mistakes and lose loads of balls (go cheap) but it's a phase we've all been through and it'll really tell you if you want to take it up properly
