Guys - I read in the mag this month that a bloke who got his wife into golf and took her with him had his handicap cut by 6 shots over 3 rounds or so....

After work this evening I have decided to take my wife on my local par 3 course to see what happens. She has played before but not much but Im more curious to see what happens to my game. She says she wants lessons and to give it a go.

Has anyone else found this to work or am I just clutching at straws?
Should I be pleased she wants to play because then she will understand more when I come home and kick the cat / dog?

Mine decided to join the club this year as a one yeasr trial. If she likes it she will re-join. I've never played so much golf. It's marvellous. :D We've had the odd dust up, she won't take advice whilst on the course, plus I tend to stand yakking whilst she is putting, which has cost me a few rockets, but hey I've got quick reactions and easily dodge the flying clubs. :D
Due to her not taking advice on the course, we went into our local park last night, and I gave her a few tips on the basics, hell we can all do this, and all is well, the ball was flying in the air with a slight draw and divots after the ball. God knows how she was doing this?????? I'm really looking forward to this weekends mixed touney. Encourage the wife, you will not regret it.

Yes that is correct, I have corporate membership at Mottram and all the DeVere's and I can do it in 50 mins, to be honest the clubs in Southport out price themselves. Granted there are a lot of rich footballers here but Im not one of them!

I play Birkdale about 3 times a year with a friend for free and played S&A last week so I do play them but De Vere is far better value for money!

*shakes head*.

You must be mad, - just to get your Handicap down ? play with better players is the way to get you're handicap down matey, - nothing like partnering +1 & 5HC players to fine tune your Course Management, as well as not wanting to play like a complete tw@t. !

I can just imaginge mine, all the way round, ......'so did you ring the builder today ?'........'I was thinking about those curtains.......".....etc etc.....

Mad I tell thee.......

I don't want my wife to play with me, she had lessons some years back but was so slow on the course. Her boobs are huge and she can hardly reach around them and it looks so uncomfortable. As I don't play golf to get away from her she sometimes comes and caddies for me, I have a power caddy so it's no strain and she seems to enjoy being out there and part of the team. I'll be happy to give her 10% of my winnings.... It will be a massive saving...... Hehe

You crack me up smiffy! Are you going to Beau Desert?

Sadly not.
As lovely as the course is, it's a heck of a long way for me to come and play one round of golf, over 440 mile round trip. I can't get the time off of work to make it a "two dayer" which is really what I'd want to do.
I will get to play it again, it's that good. But it may have to wait until next year when I can organise other things aorund it.

That's fair enough Rob, hope to see you on a meet some other time.
Ive never played the course even though its 20 minutes away but hear its quality....

Sorry, just took over the thread there... Back to taking the wife.
I keep promising to allow mine to come and she can drive a buggy. Not got around to it just yet. Strange that. :D ;)

Sam quite often comes out with me on the course, she loves to just walk around and will roll the odd fag for me every now and then.
She used to play golf when she was younger but doesn't want to hit a ball in front of me as she thinks I will take the mickey out of her....as if

UPDATE: As promised I took the wife last night to the local par 3 course, as the weather wasn't brilliant we had the entire course to ourselves so that made me feel better ;)
Anyway, she did ok, the first hole is a par 4 and the rest 3's and she went round in 52 (par 28 9 holer) and I shot 32. She even had a par  and a couple of 4's.
It was quite enjoyable and of course I got thanked for including her later on.
However, when we got back to the club shop she spotted a new set of Callaway ladies clubs in a nice Callaway bag - in pink!!
Oh God what have I done.......

HID took some lessons with her works sports & social club and got a set of 2nd hand sticks. She came out a few time with me and another couple we knew at the old Royal Ascot but she hated playing and got frustrated. We all went to Ashbury Manor on a golfing holiday as the course were shorter and easier and lo and behold she only fractured her wrist and tore ligaments on the 2nd night slipping on their indoor bowling alley. Cue a minibus ride to Exeter General, 6 hours in A&E and her arm in a cast. Not bad enough it was only 8 weeks before the wedding and she was terrified the cast wouldn't be off in time.

Suffice to say she never played again but now she is working at a golf club, she's picked up a £3 7 iron and back hitting a few balls with me at the range and threatening to get one of the pros to give he some cheap lessons

Perhaps Mrs Homer could join up to the forum, post 12.7 billion posts and start to do a blog.

The more the merrier.........
