I have to say you have a swing a lot of us men on here would be very jealous off. There are a couple of things that are quite noticeable especially you getting onto your toes at impact and from a very good address position your spine tends to fall forward through the backswing. The only other point is the swing is a little long but I guess that comes from being young and supple. If you freeze the video on the 2 second mark there is a point where you have turned and the club is pointing right down the target line. Then however you keep going a little further and it is pointing a tad right.

I would say though you have a very good swing. Where do you play and what is your handicap

Hope you don't mind me throwing in my tuppence worth.

Have a look at the photo below. Look at how stuck your right elbow is into your body. Your swing would improve immensely and you would get more distance and consistency if you could get it travelling past your body correctly rather than getting all jammed behind you. I'm sure you'll agree it looks very weak.

I think this is caused by the earlier actions in you swing. The photo below tells the story. You take your hands in behind your body rather than keeping them in front of you. They should be somewhere in between your shoulder blades at this point with the line of the shaft more towards tour head (in front of you) Cure this and you'll play better.

Maybe get some video lessons. You have the makings of a great swing. Best to catch the bad habits at your early age.

And well done for posting this. Shows a lot of courage.

Well said john
Hello golf girl, you certainly put a lot into it, but how effective is it?

There are areas where I think you maybe wasting some energy and also, the way your head drops and your elbow tuck in could counter each other in timing and power.

But hey you play off 6 and its been a long time since I was off 6 so maybe you should be teaching some of us. :D

First of all can I say great job at getting down to 6 :)John Findlay has it spot on about your right elbow.
I believe this is caused by your address position.
If you compare the 2 pictures of you and Nat Gulbis you will see the difference.

When you swing down into the ball, you're swinging back into your body whereas Nat is swinging away from her body giving her the powerful extension through the ball.

Try and lift your hands a little at address and film again and see if it helps.
If you have got to 6 with that swing, there's no need for any huge change to it.
Just try lifting those hands at address and stand an inch or 2 away from the ball and see what happens. Good luck and have fun outdriving the boys :D

Guys, while she is a little close to the ball you're all talking about Gulbis and she's a bad example to use in reference to this girls swing. She's clearly a rotary swinger with a body driven/ passive arms action whereas Gulbis is more of a two planer with a much more active hand and arm action. Having your elbow tucked in is an absolute key to a successful rotary swing. Yes, her's is a little cramped, but please don't try to change her entire release when this is clearly working.

bobmac, in my recent lessons i've been told that my arms were too far out from my body at set-up and i was to let them hang down a bit more like the OP's stance here... Is this different because she has a fairway wood (unless i'm mistaken), where-as Nat Gulbis is hitting a driver?? Also, does this change between male and female golfers due to differences in body/leg/arms length ratios (longer legs etc)?

I only said try and lift your hands a little at address and film again and see if it helps.
I wouldn't even think about changing her whole swing or release as she has got to 6 with that swing.
My only concern is if she continues with her elbow stuck in behind her, how many flip hooks she will hit.
Slugger, I believe the arms should hang from the shoulders and about 2 -3 inches forward of vertical and be comfortable.
Perhaps using Nat Gulbis as an example was bad and some say she is stretching for the ball but I think golfgirl can learn alot from the way she gets back to a good impact position.
Having seen golfgirls swing, I'm sure she is having lessons from someone so she should be in good hands.
Good luck girl :)

bob, the point I'm making is having the elbow by the right hip is a perfect impact position for a rotary swing where the hands are passive and a push release is used. Granted she's a bit close to the ball and a bit stuck, and that is probably due to the position Jon noted on the way back.

Gulbis, on the other hand, is much more of a down the line slinger of the clubhead using a crossover release. this is why she has so much disconnection.

I'm not going to pick sides between you squabblers! <wink>

Here's where I'm at.... I think you are both right :)

At set up the hands are a little close to the body by a couple of inches.

If you shallow out that big angle JUST A LITTLE...

(this big angle that was in Bobmac's picture)

nat3.jpg

Then it will create more space and enable you to take the club back on plane properly and give you width.

At the moment your hands are too close and that is forcing your hands round your body and inside the line far too quickly. Notice how low your hands and swing plane are.

golfgirl1.gif

You need to be aiming for the WHITE position with your hands and swing plane.

Because you are below plane you are overswinging and pointing way right of the target, then coming over the top into an out-to-in swing...fading it.

If you get on plane it won't affect your impact position, (you can still keep your elbow tucked in) but should lead to better, further, more consistant striking, and you can even hit from the INSIDE if you want to!

The key is to get on plane. From there you can work on your impact position if you wish.

If you watch the second half of this video you'll notice both girls bring their hands up across the line of their solarplexus to get on plane...not round their right hip.

hope that helps...
Regards..

note: Ignore the beginning of the video..that's COMPLETE JUNK. The camera is closer on the left and gives the illusion of more head dip!!!!! :p
You can tell because both ladies are 5'9" yet Gulbis looks like a giant!!!!!!!! :D

Experts!! Pah!

Please note: I'm not PGA qualified as I didn't fancy selling green fee's in a pro shop for £5/hour. Generally the pictures talk for themselves.
