I've noticed some FS adverts are turning into discussions and comments about what they are going to replace the item with, or general opinions on the item FS. I'm sure it's well meaning but can deviate as all threads tend to and can be unfair for the seller.

I propose that FS threads are only added to by someone genuinely interested in purchasing and that all discussions regarding the sale or item are on the FS thread and not by PM, this keeps visibility and clarity should there be any 'issues'. Questions asked and answered publicly might increase other buyer interest as facts are revealed, again good for the seller.

I've seen this work extremely well on other sites and removes any dubiety about who said what and who offered first.

I'm sure some people get email notification that there is a new post on their FS thread, and rush back only to find it's a comment along the lines of "I thought you loved that club, what are you getting now"
Nothing wrong with the question and should be done via PM and leave the FS thread for.....the sale.

That is how it should be, if folks want to discuss specifics they can always take it to pm.

but its not how it is or I wouldn't have suggested it;)

most deals are hidden, I'm recommending transparency for everyone's benefit

I pulled over in my car yesterday after thinking I had a bite on my sale of trousers only to find once logging in on my phone to find that someone was just asking if I was the short person in my avatar!

I understand exactly what you are saying as I then sold the trousers later that evening to someone else without that person posting openly and contacting me via PM.

Maybe he didn't want his wife to see what he had bought, again lol.

If someone wants to buy something but doesn't yet qualify for posting in the for sale section, how else are they meant to contact the seller if its not via a PM.

Entirely agreed - I wanted to buy something the other week but couldn't comment due to being a new member. By the time I'd figured out why I couldn't and sent the PM, the club had already gone!

Although I was too slow on this occasion, I still don't qualify for the section due to lack of posts so the PM needs to be an option :)
