1st time out for a month due to lower back issues. Very cautious about movement so restricted backswing & turn to a minimum, cut down movement on everything - guess what? Drove 18 fairways (pretty much as long as usual), hit most of the greens and chipped better than I have for years. Putting was cr*p but broke 90 for the first time and scored 42 points!

Anyone else found that being forced to change your natural swing helps? :)

When I swing well within myself I do find my resulting stoke is much more accurate and there is little loss of distance. I just wish I could learn to do that all the time instead of resorting to trying to smash the ball as hard as I can. This generally results in a much poorer result!

Yep - after 3 months out, the first round back was the best off the tee I have probably ever played. Limited and slower back swing resulted in much more control and no loss of distance, in fact I think I was probably a bit longer. Suffice to say that now I am playing more and more, I am spraying the ball about left right and not centre, despite my best efforts to remain in slo-mo mode! :p

I found exactly the same happened to my game.Several years ago my back went into spasm a few days before the county scratch league finals day,i was absolutely gutted, because i didn't think i'd be able to play.
A friend suggested trying a lumbar brace, which i did.Although the brace didn't cure the back problem,it did offer support by restricting the movement in my lower back. After hitting 20 balls on the range,i found i was able to strike the ball very cleanly, and surprisingly lost very little distance because of this.
