Anybody ever hear of it?

They're supposed to be speaking English but I still have to go with the subtitles to understand them.

I've been binge-watching this old Scottish show on American Netflix. It's about senior citizens around my age.

It's supposed to be a comedy, but all of the characters are incredibly despicable.

Now I understand why the UK has such Draconian firearms laws.

People who behaved like that in America would have gotten shot to death long before reaching that age!

Anyway, as soon as I finish the nine seasons--I'm almost there--I'll go back to the Korean TV shows
I don't even bother reading the subtitles. I just like the Asian broads.

That is a true reflection of life in some parts of Glasgow. Try watching Chewin' The Fat next!
I watch Chewin’ the Fat and Still Game with a smile of recollection and recognition as Jack (Ford Kiernan’s character) dresses exactly as my dad did, and my dad was about the same height and build as Jack.

Like a lot of countries regional accents can be very hard to understand for some

When we had something in Scottish on I would often have to translate for my wife.

I once spent 3 months working with two lads from Sunderland (a city in North England) and it took me a few weeks to understand them . The Geordies, as they are known have different words to a lot of the other regions.

As to the programme it's humour may be as foreign to others as say Every One Loves Raymond is to us. The programme takes what is often seen here to an extreme and we often have comedy programmes that do the same to the whole spectrum of life our countries.

When I emigrated from Rochdale to Mansfield in 1970. It was because me dad got a job at Bilsthorpe Colliery. Nottinghamshire at that time was a magnet for coal miners to come from all over the UK. The different accents you would hear at school was astonishing. Talk to one Scottish lad and you could just about understand him. But if two Scottish lads got talking, you would not have a cat in hells chance.
Re programmes that some folk cannot relate to, the humour is that some folk can relate to them because they can relate to characters that lived within there communities. Now that relation comes from tv. But back in the 70’s the Scottish has Billy Connolly, we in Lancashire had Mike Harding. All were able to make us laugh and relate to folk in our communities.

Anyway, I watch lots of foreign TV on Netflix, and the UK has it's share--I've watched shows that take place in all four countries. Hinterland is Wales, I believe, and Derry Girls is Northern Ireland. Still Game is Scotland, and
I guess that Foyle's War was my favorite English series. That had the sister of the girl who's on the Magnum PI remake. Honeysuckle and Perdida Weeks, I believe.

UK series have fewer episodes per season than American ones and the schedules of production seem to be less regular. Their general quality is quite good, though, while ours tend to suck more often than not.
What was the one about the department store years and years ago? I always got a kick out of that one. Are you Being Served? !!! I just remembered it. Hysterical.

Is Derry Girls hard to understand for you too, I find some of it tricky to follow.
Great show though.
