I have pretty much had enough of my NXT Extremes. They have helped my slice and length a little bit but they are absolutely killing my short game especially my putting.

I was looking at the ball review in recent GM and liked the sound of the Srixon Trispeed. I need a ball that is soft but still fairly long and straight off the tee. They also can't be too expensive since I lose 1-2 per round (getting better) and also I like to use the same ball for short game practice so need around 30 in my shag bag so a little durability would be good too.

Does anyone use this ball and can give a user opinion or does anyone have a different suggestion that fits my criteria?

Cheers guys :)

I use the older tri-speed at present and have no complaints at all. I much prefer them to the NXT. They feel reasonably soft but not to the same degree as premium balls and I find that they do perform well around the green.
The new ones are supposed to be even better.

The old Srixon trispeed was a fantastic ball. Really had some zip off the driver, and was fine around the greens. Would have recommended it to anybody. Great ball at a reasonable price.

The latest Srixon trispeed tours are not the same. A bit harder (which I don't like) for the short game, and I don't feel that they are as nice off the driver either. They are ok length wise, but I loved the feel off the driver with the old ones.

They scuff up a bit too after a couple of rounds (doesn't sound like this will trouble you too much).

Give them a go, you might be ok (I don't like NXT either), but I can't rate them as highly as I used to.

Srixon AD333 would probably be better.

Why? What is your reasoning that the AD333 is better?

I didn't mean it was a better ball, I was just suggesting it might be better for him, I played with them last year and found them relatively responsive around the greens as well as easy to control off the tee.

But I haven't tried the trispeeds. I would try both and see which you feel more comfortable with.

Murph, have you found one of the current crop of balls that is near to the old trispeed in quality & price?

Not really.

Tbh, I have a cupboard full of premium golf balls (4 doz Bridgestone 330RX, 1 doz Srixon Zstar, 1 doz ProV1 and a few odd sleeves of 3), and so don't really need to go looking for a few years.

I bought the Trispeeds to use through the winter, as I got a very good deal on them, and figure using premium balls on a winter course is a waste. I also thought I would like them. Ha, paff, got that one wrong.

The outgoing Zstar is a good value ball. However, as with all premium balls, if you put a bit of a slice on it, it will really whip round into the cabbage. Not suitable for everyone.

If you use anything long enough, you'll get used to it.

That is probably the case I don't think sufficient of the new ones will have been lost yet

I picked up the last 4 boxes at my local range last year when he was selling them 2 boxes for £25 so i would imagine the lake balls ones are the older ball. I couldn't find a better all round ball at a reasonable price, but if you get the old ones as pearl grade then they are good enough.

I get bags of Srixon balls from a "friend". Mainly Soft's and AD333's but I do get a few Trispeed in there. I'd say give the soft feel a go if your down on your short game as they've been working for me (at times :D)

Too late :) just ordered a load of Trispeeds from Absolute Balls only £23 for 4 dozen (12 pearl).

There is a Srixon/Cleveland fitting centre attached to Maidenhead Golf Range where I practice and where you can get ball fitted. I'm pretty sure MikeH went there once it first opened and was actually recommneded the Trispeed for his swing speed etc. Not sure if he ever took them up on the advice mind.

I've not played with them as I prefer the AD333 in winter and premium balls (Pro V Z star) etc in the summer but I guess the answer is to buy a sleeve of three and give them a go

Having won some from GM I have recently been using the Bridgestone E6 and am really enjoying them, long and sraight and good off the putter. Not sure if they will replace the DX3/FG Tour in the Summer but at the moment I am playing really well with them.
